Ah Forge World. Without a doubt, Forge World is one of the most iconic locations in the Halo series and for most forgers, it is a testament to good times and nostalgia alike. Forge World was a completely unprecedented upgrade from the Forge options in Halo 3 as it offered players access to geographic settings and spaces never before seen in the Forge sandbox. With the addition of Halo Reach's expanded tools and the introduction of the super canvas Forge World, we saw a revolution of what was built, why, and by who.

Long story short, Forge World changed everything.

Now, after seven long years, Forge World has made a return. With Halo 5's huge selection of terrain options, canvas settings and extra tools, Ducain23 has delivered a blast from the past. His recreation of Forge World features all the bells and whistles of the Reach classic and then some. For the first time in a long time, we can walk on the shores of Paradiso again, drive Warthogs over the wild jumps of Hemorrhage or stand upon the rocky pillar that Pinnacle was built on and even more!

But what had to be done to get to this point? What got this nostalgia train moving? I spoke with Ducain about these things and more. Let's jump in!

    ---------------------------------------------

Ascend: So without a doubt, Forge World is one of the most iconic facets of the Halo series. What inspired you to try to bring it to life here in Halo 5?

Ducain: It first started out as a joke when I asked my followers what I should make. When I decided to start forging the map, it was to prove how large the canvases really are.

Ascend: How long did it take you to build all of this?

Ducain: Building Forge World took me about 90 hours to make.

Ascend: Unfortunately, Halo 5's huge tool box comes with a few gaps to mind. What would you say were some of the biggest hurdles in getting this project done?

Ducain: The main hurdles were the object count, light map and physics budgets. I almost used the entire object count budget, but the light map and physics are both around 450%...haha

Ascend: If you could change or add anything, what would it be?

Ducain: I really wanted to put more detail into the coliseum area. I just didn't have the budget :(

Ascend: Since we have a new, well built version of Forge World at our disposal, do you think people will start using it as a canvas again?

Ducain: I already know a few people that will be making some maps using Forge World. Just remember you will need to delete all unseen/used areas and maybe even a bit of detail in order to make your own map using a section of Forge World :)

Ascend: Every forger has their vices. What's your favorite part of Forge World?

Ducain: Hemorrhage is my favorite area. Love the way it looks and how accurate it is (although I am currently adding more detail to Hemorrhage as an individual map).

Ascend: Do you want to see Forge World, or at least some variation of it, make a return in Halo 6?

Ducain: The reason why Forge World was great in Reach was because we couldn't place trees, terrain or even very many rocks. With the current iteration of Forge, we can build and adjust anything we want. With that said, I wouldn't mind, either way, if we get something like Forge World in the future or not. Also, we don't even know what the future of Forge will be like. Tom and his crew are really dedicated to improving Forge and maybe we will get an even more powerful Forge in Halo 6 :)

Really glad everyone has enjoyed the map! My next "big project", like Forge World, is the Halo CE campaign mission "Halo" (the section after the tunnel part). So far it is turning out pretty good :D

There ya' have it folks! What do you think? Are you happy to see Forge World return in this way? There's so much more to see! Give this map a peek or maybe even build something for nostalgia's sake. Until next time, see you later fellow forgers!
