      22/25, how'd you do?

Yeah, I think I'll do well on the midterm because I can get the main part of the code down, but it's when I forget something silly like a semi-colon or some brace brackets when I really start to fail. I ended up with 126 errors because I forgot one bracket in a side project I was working on.

Hopefully the midterm is marked mostly on coding "theory", and less on the syntax.

tbh I would much rather lie down and play Pokemon, but I absolutely need to do this, I kind of know how you feel :(

It's looking to be a long night, I think.

I think the driver calls on the class which calls on the file provided, but I don't want to **** this up and fail the assignment, especially after I got 7/45 on the last one..

Also, for the second program, what do we do? I know we need to make a class and a driver, but how do the files interact with each other?

That solved my entire problem, thank you. I was forgetting that it was .util, not .utility.

Yup, precisely that lol. BRB though, whether continued by skype or VMs, smokey time :)

Yeah, tbh I don't know how easy it is to crack so it might not be worth the hassle, and it's kinda expensive, especially if it's not a necessity anymore. My dad gave me one of his activations so I can't complain.

Only thing that I miss is not having OneNote, which imo was a fantastic addition to the Office suite. But yeah, seems perfectly smooth to me, I've had no complaints with it and genuine compatibility is nice.

I've experienced bad things about Pages. Bad spellcheck, unintuitive menu system, not a fan. Hell, I'd take Open Office over that.

I heard bad things about O4M as well, dunno if that used to be true (heard that it was slow and clunky), but my experience has been pretty damn positive. Basically on par with the Windows version.

You'd have to pay me to torrent iWork, what on earth did you need it for? iLife is nice, but Office for Mac is so nice I'd never bother with iWork.

Whilst I agree about the UI element being huge, it really is the start menu issue as far as I can tell. Aside from that it's supposedly just 7 but faster. Yes, Metro is going to piss me off no end, but start menu replacements are already coming out so I'm not too fussed, if a little disappointed. You're right about hardware, but I just can't take having to drastically upgrade my machine because of an OS's shortcomings, and the problems with Vista went beyond hardware requirements in my experience.

I must admit, I still torrent OS X lol, even though I agree that it's very reasonably priced.

As for OSs, I actually disagree on many counts. Vista did a lot of damage, but I think 7 undid more of it than you may realise, and whilst 8 has the massive UI hurdle of abandoning the start bar and going all tablet UI on us, under the hood it looks even better than 7. Stable, fast and by all accounts nice to work with...except for gaming, if you listen to Gabe (which I'm inclined to).

I love OS X, but Lion was bloated as hell. SL would sit happily enough on 1GB of RAM. Not buttery, but alright. Then Lion was frustratingly slow on 2GB, which was so out of character for OS X. ML did A LOT for memory management but it's still a little more buggy than I'd like. I really wish they'd just half the release cycles and produce more stable versions. Beta testing with the first few months of OS use is how MS used to roll, disappointing to see Apple going that way. I'll stay on OS X for sure, but I gotta say there are times when I'm a little disappointed and am very glad I also have a nice Windows 7 machine or 2.

As for PCs, there are actually a couple of interesting discussions there. As for laptops, yeah totally, the hardware issue is impossible to ignore there. Macbooks are just beautifully built machines, simple as. My brother just bought a £1500 Vaio and had build quality issues from the start, and now it's in the shop because the headphone AND USB ports got dodgy within 2 months. There's a huge niche for a genuinely thorough PC hardware manufacturer, but I think Apple did something genius in creating enough of a culture around their brand that people are willing to pay what it costs for truly good RnD + build quality.

Yeah, exactly right about the S2 dev community. One of the reasons I bought it was because of that, I didn't even consider that the Exynos platform could undo all that potential. The ROMs end up being only a little better than they were for my Vega, which had a tiny community, despite such hard work from really talented devs.

Hmm, the only way I could think that an external SD would slow things down is in the initial media scan, which only affects it for a brief while after reboot. If I understand correctly, it's basically indexed after that and so is only read when you actually try and read a file from it. If you're shifting apps to it then sure, it's gonna slow right down, but that's your own fault. Maybe I'm wrong though, my understand of actual Android development is next to non-existent.

That's the crux really, ain't it? Hardware is all well and good, but ROM issues just piss me off every day and ruin the device. They make or break the experience, which is why I tell people who are looking at Androids to do their research on the software and not just look at spec. If you're a stock ROM person then make damn sure the company produces a good one, and is good about updates. If you're in to customs then be sure there's a good dev community there and that the hardware offers a good platform. Spec sheets have been the death of many a potential Android enthusiast.
