MY LIST HALO CE AND PC Favorite: Timberland Least Favorite: Infinity HALO 2, VISTA AND H2A Favorite: None Least Favorite: Coagulation HALO 3 Favorite: Avalanche Flag, Sandtrap Flag, Sandbox Slayer, Valhalla Slayer Least Favorite: Utah Mambo, Vindictive, Entrenched HALO REACH AND CEA Favorite: Ridgeline Anniversary, Breakneck Anniversary, Tempest Squad Least Favorite: Basically all the Forge maps HALO 4 Favorite: Perdition Slayer, Outcast Regicide, Wreckage Flag Least Favorite: Exile, Settler, Vortex
Boneyard Heavies wasn't actually good but I always had so much fun trolling with jetpack on the map. Plus I always thought the design had a ton of potential. Basically, it goes Waterworks then everything else for me. Avalanche in H3 was really fun as well. CE I honestly don't like any of the maps but I do think there are some with a lot of potential besides infinity. Halo 4 was just muff cabbage.
I prefer objective gametypes for BTB so my votes are weighted by that. Halo CE/PC Favorite: Ice Fields Least Favorite: Danger Canyon (the spawn trapping is too real) Halo 2/Vista/H2A Favorite: Terminal (Turf was a bit chaotic for BTB but loved it) Least Favorite: Uplift Halo 3 Favorite: Avalanche (again High Ground was chaotic on BTB but loved it) Least Favorite: Forge Maps Halo Reach I didn't play Reach enough to form an opinion on the BTB maps (stuck to Firefight/Invasion/small teams). Halo 4 Favorite: Ragnarok (I have fun the most on this map in H4) Least Favorite: Ragnarok (Every CTF match is a tie) Halo 5 Favorite: Antifreeze (I enjoy every game mode on this one, something I can't say for all the H5 BTB maps) Least Favorite: Basin (Strongholds is a nightmare on this map)
Halo CE/ Anniversary Favorite: Team slayer on Death Canyon. (when spawn trapping) Least favorite: Team slayer on Death Canyon. (when being spawn trapped) Halo 2/ Anniversary Favorite: Assault on Terminal. Least favorite: Neutral bomb on Waterworks. Halo 3 Favorite: Capture the flag on Sandtrap. Least favorite: that is a trick question, because I love all [big team battle] maps in Halo 3! Halo: Reach Favorite: Team heavies on Asphalt. Least favorite: Elite slayer on Spire. Halo 4 Favorite: Oddball on Wreckage. Least favorite: Infinity slayer on Vortex. Halo 5 Favorite: Capture the flag on Recurve. *Least favorite: Strongholds on Deadlock. *This is me whenever I commit to a frontal assault on red team's home base (before Nokyard's update of Deadlock):
Halo CE/PC (I have never gotten the chance to play Halo CE multiplayer with enough people for a BTB) Halo 2/Vista/H2A Favorite: Zanzibar (I didn't play too much of Halo 2, but I have always enjoyed the big turbine area because of how unique it felt.) Least Favorite: Not too sure to be honest. HALO 3: Favorite: Vahalla CTF/Slayer and Sandtrap CTF. (I loved having the ability to move the flag stand around in Sandtrap it really made it fun and chaotic. And Vahalla is just everything I loved about Halo, vehicle warfare mixed with some great infantry combat.) Least Favorite: None. Don't think I had the chance to play the forge BTB maps, I was too busy playing custom games. <3 Halo Reach Favorite: Paradiso (I really enjoyed this map due to all the different paths throughout the island and the banshee was fun too.) Least Favorite: The Invasion Maps on BTB. (I really didn't like the re-purposed invasion maps.) Halo 4 Favorite: I really didn't play too much Halo 4 but I thought the map Vortex was okay. Halo 5 (Haven't played enough of BTB yet because either I am forging or playing Warzone.)
Didn't jump on till 3. Halo 3: Fav: Last Resort/Sandtrap Least: Avalanche, Rat's Nest Halo 4: Fav: Longbow was alright, Shatter, Daybreak Least: everything else. For every gametype. Everything. Even the menu was stupid looking. Halo 5 Fav: so far... Guillotine and Antifreeze. Least: I wish I could put Recurve, but that's not even a map
I'm just going to address dev maps. And I never played the Halo PC maps. I like Sidewinder, that said I've never really played CE BTB. H2 had a really solid BTB map pool. Coag was probably the worst. I'm a big Headlong fan. Loved all the large asymmetrical H2 maps. I never loved Avalanche. Valhalla is probably the best Gultch iteration. I'm secretly a High Ground fan. I don't really have a favorite H3 map though, just ones I dislike more than others. I really liked Highlands and enjoyed Tempest. Was not a fan of any of the invasion maps outside of their intended gametype. Harvest was one of the better H4 maps IMHO. Also didn't hate Longbow. Those maps were just above "meh" though. Wasn't a fan of Vertigo I guess? (Also, I would include Daybreak on your list, and if Turf counts for H2 than Complex should probably count for H4) Unupdated BR start Deadlock is easily my least favorite BTB matchmaking map. Even if it's updated to magnum starts and Nok's most recent version, I prefer the map for smaller teams. I really like Antifreeze, but only for flag. Guillotine is my favorite with Entombed in second.
H1: N/A. I don't care for BTB in this game, but a map that I thought had potential was Danger Canyon. Blood Gulch and all its spawn can die in a fire somewhere. H2(V/A): Headlong 1 sided OBJ is my favourite. Not really a fan of H2 in general though. H3: Longshore 1-Bomb was great. Vindictive and Wastelands not so much. Reach: Didn't care for MM in general in this game. As biased as this sounds though I did get a ton of enjoyment out of most of the maps and settings I adjusted for BTB.net. Favourite gametypes will have been Territories on Breakpoint and 1-Bomb on Breakneck (maps and gametypes both significantly edited from default for competitive league play). 1 sided OBJ on Boardwalk was also a classic and probably the only gametype in MM I really enjoyed for BTB (didn't have to change this one much). Tempest CTF also deserves a notable mention. Least favourite: anything in MM, especially Cragmire by about a factor of inifnity. H4: Same as reach regarding MM. Least favourite was anything on Ragnarok, but I did manage to get a lot of enjoyment out of Extraction on Complex and Perdition in BTB.net customs (3 plot EXT with 6 sites on the map, 10 points to win - always varies because the next plot to spawn depends on which two remain after one is captured but it's completely deterministic resulting in a ton of strategic depth and map rotation based on the game state at the time). H5: Again, I'm not really a fan of BTB MM, but I do think that Antifreeze shows promise and Guillotine lives up to Headlong's legacy (the updated version is much better though, especially re: Stronghold placement). As far as unreleased maps go I've had an absolute blast working with Fated and Duck to playtest CTF on their map Artemis (formally known as Torque prior to 343 releasing a map with that name). Looking forward to seeing what Community BTB brings out of of the woodwork. EDIT: Looking at this I realised just how much I think Bungie and 343 don't have a clue how to offer a balanced BTB experience. So much of their MM offerings are wide open and deserving of absolute mockery. Going off of past Forge choices for MM integration I'm really hoping that we don't get any more Abridgeds or Cragmires in H5.
