Hey, my console just went and died yesterday. I didn't get the RRoD, but it was just one flashing red light in the lower right hand corner of the Ring. For about a day before this happened, I noticed that all these vertical lines were appearing on the screen, and dots and other glitchy graphical stuff was happening both in-game and on the dashboard. Then, the next time I tried to turn it on, I got a black screen with the message: "Call Xbox Customer Support" in multiple languages along with the error E 74. Anybody have any experience with this one? (At least I have a Wii for backup. Not that that fatass plumber has anything on the Chief, though.)

I got this a couple months ago. It's worse than the 3 rings because it gets off warranty after one year, and the cost to repair is ~150$ from what I've heard.

Although I think it depends on where you are for how much it is. I went out and just bought a new arcade system though, I wanted a new controller anyways.

I said it wasn't the RRoD. Also, along with the vertical lines, everything started looking like I was seeing static. Things were becoming transparent and glitchy both in game and on the dashboard. If you don't have that, then you don't have what I have. I don't really know how to describe the effect... it was just weird. I got an email back from the Xbox support guys though. They basically told me to do all the things I already did, (disconnect everything, change cables, power cycle, etc.) and if that didn't work, I'd probably have to send it in. Ugh. I do NOT have any money right now though.

Exact same thing happened to me, had to pay about £50 to repair it. Haven't sent it in yet though.

ohh... Yea I have that same exact problem. To be honest it doesn't bother me much. I refuse to pay for a problem that isn't really doing any harm...

don't worry about it i've gotten that more times then i can count on my fingers. The first time i got it it was a stepping stone to the RRoD but i've gotten it w/out getting them. Most times I just turned off my xbox and back on and its worked perfectly fine. #74 is a problem with reading the disks so there are tutorials on youtube and the like.

Whatever you do DON'T SEND IT TO MICROSOFT.

Well I don't know if you had the same problem as I did but when my xbox died, the day before all the colors were messed up and it was like I was playing Wind Waker all over again with cell shaders. Then the next day I turned on my xbox and the screen was black with white dots in a gridlike fashion flying all over the screen. I could hear sound but had no video. So when I checked online to fix it I found out I had to pay $100 so I didn't. I just lied and said that I had red rings and sent it in. They fixed it and sent it back. Yay for lying!

BTW my 1 year warranty went out a month before and for some reason when they sent it back they reset the 1 year warranty.

Yeah, but mine won't even go past the error screen. No amount of button-pressing or restarting will get me to the dashboard or game. I think it's seriously broken.
