So for a while now, I've been wanting to make a 4v4/5v5 map for Halo 5 that incorporated the use of vehicles like several maps in Halo 2/3 did. My first attempt, based off Turf from Halo 2, didn't quite pan out. However, while helping someone complete Halo 3 Legendary, I was struck by a bit of inspiration by the the level The Storm, which you might remember as the level where you travel through Voi taking out Anti-Air emplacements. Specifically, the section on the beach with the Scarab and AA turrets: So I set to work and began making the map. Originally called "Trinity Point" (and unfortunately, the video still refers to it as that despite my updating the name) and now called Sundered, this is what I've been able to come up with thus far. Sundered is designed to be a 4v4/5v5 symmetrical map in the vein of Standoff, Snowbound etc. Currently placed on the map are; 8x BR (Halo 5) 4x Frag Grenade 2x Mongoose 2x Carbine 2x Needler 2x Shotgun 2x Storm Rifle 2x Plasma Grenade 1x SMG 1x Plasma Pistol 1x Sniper Rifle 1x SPNKr Rocket Launcher 1x BR (Halo 2) 1x Rocket Warthog (Does not spawn during Strongholds) 1x Active Camo I've just finished the main work and have started doing the spawns, named locations etc. so its still and early Alpha look. UPDATE 3/2: I've finished the basics and the map is now ready to begin early playtests. Named locations, first pass spawns, objectives etc. have all been finished. Also made a change to the time of day and fog to make it easier to see and stay a bit more true to the level its based off of.
I think this is looking really good so far, from the video I would say it feels more like a BTB map cause of its size rather than a 4v4 or 5v5. With it still being in the alpha stage of development are you planing to add more cover along the upper walk way and maybe some varying terrain elevation, I only ask cause it can help vary some of game play and movement a bit more. I will hopefully have the time this weekend to look at maps and i would like to take a closer gander at this one.
UPDATE 3/2: I've finished the basics and the map is now ready to begin early playtests. Named locations, first pass spawns, objectives etc. have all been finished. Also made a change to the time of day and fog to make it easier to see and stay a bit more true to the level its based off of.
UPDATE 3/7: After initial playtests I've made some more changes to the map. - Added more cover between tunnel entrances and pillars, ramp and the half-pipe covers - Added ability to jump from nooks up onto Rocket ledge - Removed Sniper Rifle; replaced with SAW - Added 2x DMR - Added 2x BR - Added 2x Frag, 2x Plasma Grenade After last night's playtesting, I'm currently considering how to modify the terrain in order to provide more cover naturally, as well as working on the Slayer spawns.
