Hey Everyone, As you may have noticed, the Wiki is not up, but... it's pretty bare bones at the moment. Here's where you all come into play. One of my biggest gripes using with using ForgeHub was the inability to house resources in a meaningful way. I know there has been forums threads posted over the years that, later get collected into a single thread. Not saying it was bad method, but we decided several months ago to plan on implementing something better for the site and community as a whole. In hopes that ForgeHub is on par with Halo.Wikia stuff, but focusing on the granular details that we come to know and love with level design and Halo's Forge from over the years. This is a big task, one that may enlist some of the elite members of the community who would love to contribute to something this special. So here's what I am asking for the community members here, my vision for the wiki is too stand out and look as a goto guide for pretty much anything related to forge. Whether it is a tutorial on how to script a gametype, a design theory, or even how to use the tool itself. Here's an example of what envision - https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Hammer_Editor So as of this evening, I will be creating a new role on the site that grants you access to edit the wiki. This is a collaborative community effort, one that you can place a stamp of approval on as a community. I know that I, nor the rest of the ForgeHub staff is all knowing of forge, but as the community as a whole we're a wealth of knowledge that has the potential of creating the best Halo-related Wiki out there. If you would to be apart of this effort, please comment and let me know if this is something that you want to be apart of. -Nitro
Side note: This will apply to the site itself as well, so thing likes our bb code, like system, general rules, map submission tutorial, etc will be in need of categorizing as well!
There will be some realigning of the tags and colors in the near future as well. As for what color or how it will be done, is undetermined ATM. Yes! Things like that should most definitely be added.
I'm interested in being apart of this. This sounds like a really cool and helpful tool for everyone to use.
@A 3 Legged Goat, @KeeLoker, @Sludgeworth I've provisioned you three as a Wiki Contributor. The color label may be temporary, I don't know 100% if it's going to stay or not right now. So if it's removed or changed, don't fret .
Don't know how much I'll be able to contribute, but this is something I've been hoping for on the site for a long time. I'd love to help out as much as I can. Sign me up boss.
I recommend adding sections under Forge for big-enough topics that come up often. Lighting Player Spawning Framedrops? Game Settings & Objectives? Also a section that covers what it takes to get maps into matchmaking or tested and resources like people/groups that help with that. Many Forgers would like that info and to have things clarified. --------------------------------- I've got a little head start for some scripting documentation. @Agent Zero85 and I started up a scripting wiki, but forgehub is really where it belongs. The conditions are closest to being finished, but may need to be updated for the big MonBooty update. The actions are all listed and the in-game help text is there, but most are still pretty much empty. The rest of the pages are empty or non-existent, but I recommend using the menu structure of pages as a default and go from there. We can also use the structure of the conditions documentation and improve things from there. I have everything pre-MonBooty fully documented with extra notes and stuff in a publicly shared Google Doc. MonBooty made parts of it out of date and the new stuff is missing, but it's a start for some stuff. Copy-paste any stuff that's still good. I made the Scripter's Guild Documentation Trello publicly viewable and have tried to put new info in there. Grab info from there too. I have other bits of info scattered around and some stuff isn't written down yet. I bet others have some stuff documented too. If there's something scripting related you want to add to the wiki you can ask us if we have anything on it yet to get things started or to add. Done. If you have questions about it, ask. Right now the structure is still being fleshed out. So if you have a suggestion please do tell.
I'm just going to use this thread for communication purposes since we don't really have anything setup for this. There's an enormous list of stuff from Halo 3 here - https://www.forgehub.com/threads/forge-tutorial-master-index.22831/ I don't have any idea how much of it is usable (due to broken links and lost images) since I haven't gone through it in quite a while. This might be a good place to start for anyone that's not sure where to start. I know there was a pretty lengthy post like this for Halo Reach also. If anyone comes across that, it should probably get posted in here as well so people can start going through it.
Halo Reach Lists: https://www.forgehub.com/threads/forge-tips-and-tricks.118186/ https://www.forgehub.com/threads/halo-reach-forge-important-links-compendium.110833/ Note: I checked a few of the link provided at the second thread listed above and noticed that they're broken. Most of these are broken as a result of some changes that were made on the backend of the site many years back. You can still reach these links by reformatting them to match the links listed above. forgehub . com / threads / name - of - thread - with - dashes - between - each - word . thread number / The thread number listed in the address bar of the broken link will still work if the formatting is adjusted correctly. You'll obviously need to remove the extra spaces shown in the example above. I'm giving away all my secrets...
i know all the scripts in and out i have used all of them in some form and if you have seen my Pokemon odyssey map you know what i am capable of i would like to help and if their is something wrong i should know
I really like this idea, but I'm not a huge fan of the wiki site you linked to. Maybe it's just me, but it felt super clunky to use. I would ask you to pretend you're dumb and try using it again and see what you think. I typed in "spawning" and got a really ugly list of different articles with the word "spawning" in them. What I want to come up when I type in "spawning" is something like a concise list of articles, or some kind of filter prompt, that allows me to quickly navigate to the different spawning-related articles, like those about player spawns, and weapons/vehicles/equipment spawns. Other articles with the word "spawning" in them should not be displayed in this list--this creates overwhelming clutter. I guess I'm really just saying that the dumbest idiot you can imagine should be able to quickly navigate to an article that helps them (the best one, actually), even if they are unsure which article that is when they are searching.
I agree with this, but it's going to take time and effort (also enthusiasm) from the community members to come up with the Wiki. There's not much out there with the this forum software regarding wiki's, this is one however integrated nicely with some of the other products we use. But back to the wiki itself. I think once things rolling, the structure of the wiki will most likely get fleshed out to more of your liking. I personally would like it to flow similar to other editor wiki's out there.
