Faithess could make the quickest, most lively, but the beat in Coldplay would make awesome parts for a video, and you just can't go wrong with a bit of Feeder. Thoughts? And please explain why you like which one and why it would work better for my montage, and not just because you like the song

What's the overall pace of the montage?
I can see Violet Hill being a good track if it differs every now and then, and I definitely know what you mean when you say it 'would make awesome parts for a video'.

My main goal is just going to be excitement and maybe a bit of exhilleration. I don't want to make something really serious, i want it to be easy to watch for anybody. The best way of doing this is to provide a song of relatively fast pace, that can appeal to people who like varied genres.

Well I think Coldplay is perfect for what you're trying to fulfill then.
Something else that I think could work is some Muse?
Just kinda throwing that out there, although I can see that possibly not going well with a montage.

You need a soft song, then use the chorus (Die MFr, Die MFr, Die) from this song, EVERY time you get a kill, that would be amazing.

    Link To Song

One of those would be fine for the "softer song."

I don't think that is what he is looking for Scar, because using only the chorus of a song is simply out of the question, and the music is your typical and cliche "hardcore" kind.

I gave them all a listen, and I would go with Faithless. While I love Coldplay, and that song, I fear that it will spawn to overdone "slow motion" techniques that are all to common in montages, and will have little variation in flow, which might bore some watchers. That is, assuming you edit to the music, to make sure it fits. As for Just a Day, it just didn't sound like a montage song to me. It is very upbeat, but not Halo upbeat? Basically, it's a good song, but I don't see it being used effectively in a Halo Montage. That leaves me with Faithless (I have never heard him before, or them) which surprised me. It is upbeat with its catchy reggea-ish vocals, and upbeat drum and guitar, with a splash of other intriguing sounds and instruments. While it has that exciting touch, it has a tinge of that calming sound that is in Violet Hill. So, I would go with Faithless - Mass Destruction.

No, what I am saying is, have one song for the whole video, that is somewhat soft, and then use the "Die MFr, Die MFr, Die" for everytime he gets a kill, it would add some variety to the video.

Using that each time he were to get a kill would make the montage seem pretty damn sloppy and unprofessional.
    I know he may not be going for that type of 'tage, but it would definitely give off a better impression if he just used one song;
I personally find that when a montage fades into other songs halfway through it, or sometimes even halfway through the song itself, it's pretty irritating and really not needed.

So wait, let me get this straight. Your saying to use a song, such as Mass Destruction, but every time he gets a kill, switch over to that chorus? First off, montages have a lot of kills, so that chorus would be playing quite often (and will get really annoying). Second, if he is to do that, he would have to find a song similar to the sound of that chorus, or else it won't blend at all. Not to mention, that chorus has the same cliche sound to it as the rest of the song.

Now, if you are trying to say that he should use a song that has similar changes and variation, then you might want to reword that a bit, because it doesn't really sound like that. That is a good suggestion, however, I think Matty has narrowed it down to these 3 songs, and isn't really looking for any new songs.

EDIT: I would also like to point out that in the case of a montage set to music, you edit to the music, not edit the music to the video.

    Violet Hill

You could probably do some really cool editing for your intro with that song.
The intro on Violet Hill adds some sort of suspense..
