Let me make this clear, the Unreal Engine 3 demo just released is not the Unreal Engine 3 I am referring to. Gears of War 3 will be the latest game with the current Unreal Engine 3 and no game in the current generation of consoles could support the tech seen in the recent video.

This list only covers current graphics engines or graphics engines that are imminently coming out. I tried to find only tech demo's to compare as tech demos usually go for maximum fidelity and graphics.

Ubisoft's Anvil engine, used to render the Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia games.

Crytek's CryEngine 3, used in Crysis.

Square Enix's Crystal Tools engine, used in the recent Final Fantasy games.

Bethesda's Gamebryo, used in games like Fallout 3, New Vegas, Elder Scroll series.
(skyrim will be a new engine that has not been named yet and no tech demo's have been displayed of it)

Id's IdTech 5, used for upcoming games Rage and Doom 4.

Rockstar's RAGE, used in Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption.

Valve's Source engine, used in Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, portal, pretty much every Valve game. This video is 5 years old and updates have been made to the engine so games like L4D and portal 2 are much improved over the engine in this video.

Epic Games Unreal Engine 3, used in more games than one could count, notably Gears of War, Mass Effect, bioshock etc.

DICE's Frostbite 2, used in upcoming Battlefield 3.

There are some other proprietary game engines made for specific games that look good but these are the main game engines used in numerous games.

This looks simply amazing. Unreal has always been the state of the art for me. If I could vote in polls, that's what I would vote for.

I did not include that for a reason. That engine improvement is not currently out and will not be out this generation of consoles. Every thing in that list is current or imminent to be out there. I could have included a lot of engine's that have been previewed but not out.

A whole list of popular engine's and you pick one not in the list lol.

I did not pick specific game engine's because there are a **** ton of them. I could have included Bungie's Halo engine, or Naughty Dog's Uncharted engine, or the Madden engine etc.

Its a tough one between Cryengine 3 and Id Tech 5, but Id Tech 5 looks freaking insane.

Speaking of, the new Unreal engine looks ridiculous.

What about DICE's Frostbite 2 engine? That's what I would choose.

I'll include Frostbite 2 in the op but it's too late for the poll. Besides like Bungie's engine or the CoD engine, Frostbite is an engine designed for a single game. All the engines in my list are made for many games to run on and are sold to other developers.
