What if We Made Halo Infinite Maps in Halo 5’s Forge?

To Any Surviving Forgers Out There,

I assume most people here are having the same experience as I am while playing Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. I keep getting this urge to Forge Infinite maps, but as we all know that possibility is about a year out right now.

I got to thinking about what I could do in the meantime to scratch that itch, while also not feeling like I am creating content for a “dead” game's sandbox. I could do paper designs or rough block outs and such but that just feels like scratching the surface, I want to be able to get deeper into the process by playtesting and refining the design that way.

So what do we do? Unfortunately, we can’t bring Halo 5’s Forge into Halo Infinite, but we may be able to bring Halo Infinite’s sandbox into Halo 5 (like a value brand version). To that end, I started tinkering around with the settings in Halo 5 and have created a custom gametype that I think does a surprisingly good job of recreating Halo Infinite’s basic movement sandbox (except the slide boost :/ ), and a passable version of it’s weapon sandbox in Halo 5. I think this knockoff version is authentic enough to make playtesting insight valuable. The biggest missing thing to test would be the ability pick ups, except the booster pack of course.

And who knows, with the PC mod community doing wild stuff, we might be able to “translate” basic geometry from Halo 5 Forged maps into Halo Infinite’s Forge when it arrives to save some time.

This also does an interesting thing because it kind of liberates us from the aesthetic side of the design. For me personally, this is definitely a hurdle to completing maps. For these designs, I plan on just doing minimal visual polish. This way I am not wasting time on aesthetics that won’t translate to Infinite and I can really focus in on the map geometry.

I did a quick and dirty remake of "Live Fire" to test the settings out on if you want to try them out.

If anyone is interested I'd love to playtest with y'all as we await this forgeless winter in Infinite.

I would say you could just do basic block outs to test your ideas for sure. I’d recommend just a Live fire kind of color palette for all the blackouts. Keep it easy with concrete floors , white walls and yellow-orange accents maybe? All of the 4vs4 maps have been made very well in Halo 5 for Infinite if you want to play / check them out for their scaling vs Halo 5 maps. It would be amazing if you could export H5 Forge maps to Infinite, but I doubt that will happen.

Here is a link to the Infinite maps if you want to check them out.

I am having the same experience. I'm loving Infinite, but man...not having forge is a real buzzkill. So I put down an idea the other day in H5 to get the juices flowing again.

Not having to finish the art is a bit liberating because I usually make it 90% of the way through a map and then lose interest in the finishing stage. But also it is a bit sad because H5 is so dead that there isn't a chance to play the map or test it out.

I'm looking forward to all the new things Infinite forge can do, but I'm especially looking forward to being able to just pull up a bot match instantly while I'm forging. Who knows, maybe you will be able to even pop them in while you are forging like training mode? That would be cool.

Anyways, feel free to check out what I'm working on...I'll keep an eye on your maps as well!

I also have a custom weapon prefab I made a few years ago in my files called "No Scope DMR". This was made a few years ago when the Rain of Oblivion wasn't separated in the weapon tree. The result is a fast firing DMR with no sight, which is a decent stand-in for Infinite's commando rifle. It's not full-auto and its a bit strong, but it is pretty close. Feel free to check that out too...
