There's a ton of different pieces and such, but I definitely recommend running through all the menus and spawning as many of the different objects as you need to get a feel for the palette so you know what you're working with.
the palette, and memorizing what piece is in which submenu, is probably the toughest part. When you know you need a piece, but can't find it or don't know if there is a piece that will fit what you need. That's where many of your hours will be wasted (but not really wasted)
as an inquiry into a possible future "ex-quipment" item being created... ... does anyone know of a way to make something show up on radar, that is NOT a player? I'm thinking it isn't possible, but want to see if anyone has heard of this or knows if normal phys objects might show up.
you know, I've thought a lot about how to respond to this, and whether I should, and the best way I think is to point out that almost everyone agrees that Snowbound is one of their least favorite maps from halo 3, but you made it anyway. I'd like to point out that I believe you did an amazing job on it and it is really fun to play. It wasn't my favorite. There were times when I probably cursed at having to play it in H3... The nostalgia factor is huge right now, though, and for that reason alone, the flare item is worthy of at least a look and a play. If you have any suggestion on how to make it better, now's the time to bring it up, too. It's also important to point out that the Flare item may be the only one possible to make with Halo 5's scripting and some of the limitatons of the game. So, that's why I started there. I'd bet that you have not played a match using this flare, and that you have not been keeping up with all of the positive comments and excitement over the past few weeks as I've struggled to create it. If you had, I don't think you'd say "no one is going to like it". (In fact, if I hadn't gotten those positive comments, I may not have spent the time doing it.) My video shows gameplay where Ascend's does not (and that's fine), and I must say, that many of the randoms that have joined my lobbies enjoyed it. A few didn't. Some wondered what the hell was going on. They soon caught on and enjoyed. You can actually successfully use it as a tool in your arsenal, and it adds something, albeit not the most desirable thing, to the sandbox. Something fresh for H5... anything will help, right? On reddit, under both my postings and Ascend's, there are comments like "This is possibly the coolest tihng I've ever seen in forge". Not that it's much of an accomplishment, but this video has more views than most of my other youtube clips, and Ascend's spotlight video is doing pretty well as far as views compared to his other vids. it ain't the most popular thing since sliced bread, but it sure ain't burnt toast. Lastly, a 0/10? Really? So, like, worst thing ever? not even 1 point for one of the most innovative things to come out of forge scripting, and close to Halo 3 anniversary, no less? I'm not trying to start a beef, and if you'd be willing to look at some of the other stuff I'm working on, I think you'll be pretty impressed with one thing i'm working on but don't want to talk about much yet. Hint: It pertains to Snowbound and one of its features Respectfully,
Overwatch's Instagram posted this today. Thought it was cool. Their blockout could pass as a Forge blockout.
Ooo thats awesome, thanks for sharing, are there alot of AAA level devs that share there work public?
Don't take it to heart. Everything is exaggerated on the internet. I doubt he meant anything personal by it, and you shouldn't take it to mean that your work on it is unappreciated (though at the same time, I'm not speaking for Foge, but only expressing my opinion that you shouldn't take his comment negatively regardless of the intent). I personally hated the Flare in H3, and don't have any interest in putting something like that on my maps, or in playing maps that have it on them. On the other hand, I think it's amazing that you've utilized scripting to re-create it. The time and effort you've put into this project is worth it, and you should feel good about it. And I'm not even one of those people that thinks everyone deserves appreciation for everything they do. This project has value beyond the project itself. It demonstrates an ability to manipulate gameplay in a new way, which opens up new possibilities and ideas for other creative folk in the Halo/Forge community. Creativity spawns more creativity.
Apologies my dude. Did not mean for it to come off like that, 0/10 would not reccomend is something I say a lot when I'm not nessarily a fan of something. Certainly not a 0/10. It's super awesome that you were able to recreate something like that. I'd consider myself a more competitive player, and my main gripe with this is that you can't use it while moving. You need to do a quick sort of stop to be able to hit the buttons to activate the flare. Not sure if that's something that can be fixed or not, but for me that's the deal breaker for me. Never was a fan of being able to blind people for easy kills.
Man this #blocktober thing is super awesome. I love the uncharted ones so far. The showing of gameplay on the blockout and it swipes the art over is awesome. The DMC is super cool also. It really shows how important block outs are
Was working on a 1v1 for the contest but life got crazy as it does so finishing it will be down to the wire. I have a blockout completed called Icebox, name is placeholder, and it's fairly well tested. I'd appreciate any other input since I'm not getting online much lately. The playable file is called Icebox 0.14.0. I've got another version I've started art on and I'm maybe a third complete. Layout started as a 90° triangle, morphed into a weird square, and plays a little all over the place. Movement is like a donut that someone took bites out of so players get directed into the map instead of continually around the edge. Weapons on map right now are: 1x Grenade Launcher 1x Hydra 2x Carbine 1x SMG 1x Frag Grenade 1x Plasma Grenade Overview shot with lazy attempt at showing side paths, power weapons, initial spawns, and man cannon: View from above Grenade Launcher: Looking at center: View from Hydra: And this is the grenade launcher corner with an art pass: And that's what I was working on. Waypoint Link to playable blockout Feedback welcome
I have two of my 1v1 maps basically ready to be posted. The other two are still being arted up, and will hopefully be done in time. One of them hasn't had any testing yet. We'll see how that works out... Here are the two finished maps (pending last minute weapon or spawning adjustments). Alian - OS spawns on the right. Hydra on the bottom left. There's also a Carbine and something else, lol (I think a plasma pistol). Spazzed Out - Has Damage Boost, Speed Boost, and a Sentinel Beam. I think I put one or two other items on the map also, but I've changed them so many times that I don't really remember.
