brainwave Map that rotates on an axis from player interaction Should I call it "Temple of Zarathustra" or "Will to Power"
Does Forgehub do features differently now? I selected a few maps on the 'featured' list, and it just took me to the map thread, as opposed to an overview. If that's all a feature is now, we should be getting them more often.
Yeah no special threads and AFAIK features are just contest winners and community favorites winners. Seems like the staff could go out of the way to make sure more non-contest maps get recognized.
Given is the feature guy and when he was featuring maps he would do special write ups, record videos, compose his own music, do the interview, etc. Everyone else is lazy and just hits the feature button on the map thread.
We do want to get back to doing features, but what Given may feature VS what myself or Ascend might feature may differ. I am planning on pumping out some more videos soon, I'll try and make features one of the frequent goals.
So, then the question raised once again is "Do we want higher standards or more frequent features?" I vote for more features. Not that there shouldn't be a quality threshold, but there are still good maps being released every week. --- Double Post Merged, Sep 9, 2017 --- Ah, yes. My favorite feature is my elegant use of khaki.
Khaki Master Race Regarding the Map Features, as far as I know there hasn't been one since whatever Given last featured. He's the only person on staff that was officially tasked with featuring map. I'd really love to see the site go back to doing weekly Map Features. I remember looking forward to them every Friday, and it's a great way to recognize forgers and their work. The 'Featured Maps' you guys are referring to are all Community Favorites winners. The Community Favorites winners are added to the 'Featured Maps' list as a way to recognize what the community as a whole likes. These 'features' weren't intended to be on the same level of recognition as a 'Map Feature' though. 'Featured Maps', and 'Map Features' are essentially two different things now. Featured Maps don't necessarily get a special write-up or video. Map Features do, along with being listed in the Featured Maps category. It's kind of confusing, I know.
I kind of addressed this already, but this is just patently false. There literally haven't been any Map Features since Given last did one. He's awesome at doing features, and I wish he'd start doing them again. Criticizing the staff for not doing map features in his absence is fair, but saying they're lazy because they're just hitting a button is inaccurate. Nobody has done a Map Feature and just hit the 'Feature Map' button, so to say that they have is false. It's a matter of focus and attention, not a matter of work ethic or caring.
The last maps that given featured were storm peaks and oblivion. Click on the featured maps tab, every map since then is featured, right? Have any of them gotten write ups?
No, because 'Featured Maps' and 'Map Features' are two different things. Whether they should be or not is up for debate, but the ARE different things right now, and have been for several years.
Lmao what. You can't be serious. I visited this site every day for the last 5 years and I've never made that distinction Edit: I counted 19 features since storm peaks. None have had any article.
That's why I'm telling you there's a distinction. A 'Map Feature' is an extensive review of a map that the staff considers high quality. 'Featured Maps' consist of all the maps that have: - Had a 'Map Feature' done for them - Won Community Favorites - Placed high in a Forge Contest (I'm not sure what the threshold is currently) There's some overlap there since Map Features also get added to the Featured Map list, but they're two separate things. To be honest, the name should probably be changed from 'Featured Maps' to 'Recognized Maps', or something like that. It would be less confusing. Either that or there should be some designation within the 'Featured Maps' list that indicates why it's on the list (Map Feature, Community Favorites Winner, Contest Winner, etc.).
Prob should name one of those a different thing then. Having the same two words but in different order doesn't really make them sound distinct enough from each other. It just looks like the same thing to the average Joe but some look like less effort. Maybe something like noteworthy maps/honorable mentions or something when they are just listed out as "featured", but when there actually is an extensive feature with a video and effort in testing the map and make sure it is worthy of recommended to people it can be called featured. This way it makes a very clear distinction.
