Hopefully next time a tournament happens it won't be last minute, and we can go through a process of which maps to choose. There's a lot of good maps out there.
Usually I would allow more time to prepare for tournaments in the future and get the community more involved with contests, etc. Unfortunately, my legal circumstances are prompting me to to complete this tournament in a shorter amount of time than I would like. Now that I've settled my trademark opposition for BattlePro, I am under a legal deadline to prove its been operational before Sept. 8th so that my application can be approved by trademark bureau.
First of all, shout out to my boy @Nitro for helping me get un-banned. I'm glad someone has sense around here. Anyways... I'll only comment on this political stuff this once, and then drop it. I need to learn to let things go probably more than anyone, and this is good practice. ahem Equality of opportunity and equality of outcome are not the same thing. Here's why. One offers freedom To put this simply, there is such thing as fair discrimination. For example, an unfair instance of discrimination could look like someone who lands a job interview and is turned away solely based on their race, gender, or religion. In contrast, a fair instance of discrimination would be that same person being hired or turned away based on merit. This Ideal is one of the core principles of capitalism, and for good reason. One offers oppression As far as equality of outcome is concerned, I'm not even sure where to start. Not only does it drop the incentive (and therefore the rate) for advancement in literally every area of production, but it squashes the idea of the individual and personal choice. I don't want the result of someone else's life choices, nor do I expect anyone else to want the result of my choices. The idea that the outcome of all of our choices, no matter the differences, should be the same, is extremely dangerous and is the same exact mistake that Russia, China, and North Korea have made. (the estimated death count between the three is about 200 million and counting) Not only is this ideology the antithesis of free choice, but it justifies almost anything, as we've seen from the mass murder in the states that implemented it. If we decide as a society that inequality of outcome is the result of an unjust system and that it needs to be corrected, will will repeat history in its gruesome entirety. I know what might be going through your head right now. Something like "did he really just jump from inequality of outcome to the prospect of murder by the millions!?" My answer to that is simple. Abso-****ing-lutely. Literally every society that has decided that the goal of making everyone "equal" should supersede individual freedom has ended is chaos and destruction. Every single one. This is only one reason (the best reason) to avoid these "ideals", but there are many others that I'm too lazy to get into. In conclusion, I'll leave you with a short and simple video that explains the broken logic behind the idea instead of focusing on the specific outcomes of the ideology like I have.
I think that conforming to such rigid principals unnecessarily limits people's creative freedom and sense of experimentation. In my opinion, our community should challenge established preconceptions and break through paradigms of conventional wisdom in an attempt to explore the unknown. When you say an Extermination map can't be used for anything other than Extermination, its extremely narrow minded. That's like saying: - 4v4 maps aren't 1v1 maps - 4v4 maps aren't infection maps - BTB maps aren't Invasion maps - 4v4 maps are only 4v4 maps Before I explain how pathing, scale, spawning or balance can compliment a dubs map, the most important thing people should know is to not follow any rules on it. Map design is subjective, If my thinking contradicts your rule then that means your rule already doesn't make sense. The more you free yourself of these rules and conventions the more you can open up your mind. Don't be afraid to try to forge an extermination map and make it viable for 2v2 just because someone said you can't do that. Perhaps you can make it work, don't let people tell you what your doing is wrong. Just keep your mind open to everything because there's no wrong map design philosophy.
I'm sorry but I wouldn't call putting an extermination map into a 2v2 contest pushing boundaries. --- Double Post Merged, Aug 11, 2017 --- Here's another way! Disparate outcomes do not imply disparate treatment.
Um -I'd say almost every 4v4 map is not a 1v1 map. The exceptions like Lockout, Guardian and Midship are few, but those games at least had the advantage of a slower, universal player speed. The smallest map dev map in Halo 5 is Empire and I don't think you'd want to 1v1 on that. -Infection was played on every map so that doesn't really count -Invasion maps were purposely designed for Invasion, and they didn't play BTB very well. Half of Boneyard was completely ignored, Spire had poor spawns and awkward engagements, and Breakpoint was just Banshee spam. I'd hardly consider those good BTB maps compared to the purpose built ones from Halo 2 and Halo 3. I agree that "there are no rules" and that people should try to break conventions and push boundaries. But the majority of the Extermination maps I've seen have not been designed with 2v2 respawning in mind, and would therefore translate poorly to a game mode that is very sensitive to spawning issues. Historically, the 2v2 maps with the poorest spawns have been negatively received.
4v4 maps AREN'T 1v1 maps. ANYTHING can be an infection map. BTB maps AREN'T invasion maps. 4v4 maps ARE 4v4 maps. If you want, I can explain why. But I feel like this is common sense... The only thing that doesn't make sense is your logic.
We literally had the longest most insane discussion in this thread about how stupid the argument of subjectivity it is and of course this clown brings it up again
On a better note, I finally got around to rigging two weapon models. I still have to correctly map them and apply textures, but I'm sure I can finish that by the end of the month.
@Qrrbrbirbel That's the coolest layout I've seen from you so far. Good structure and height distribution. Excessive LoS in areas, though.
