Weve been stuck on 2's for so ridiculously long. Could we please for the love of god do something 1v1? Id really like to get to design talk from you guys around it and if we dont get past the '1v1 is ****' hive mentality then it will never arise. I understand that the weapon sandbox isnt super supportive of 1v1 gameplay(neither is it of 2v2), competitiveness is intense and that a lot of social interaction is loss when 1v1ing but thats all i feel is detouring everyone. Many people here are selling 1v1s short without any extensive time with H5 1v1s and its really sad to see all the potential lost. I know without uncertainty that you guys havent given it a chance because ive scoured forgehub and filesearch up and down for 1v1 maps and its a ****ing desert. The ease of access for 1v1s is tremendous. When is comes to forging alone, 1v1 is the golden spot for forge creations and will allow people to really delve in without hindrance from the budget and when it comes to testing, accessibility to other players and obtaining feedback is painless and uncomplicated. Im just baffled by how hard its being ignored this cycle. If a few key forgers would just step in to the 1v1 realm you guys could really help create a new movement in the forge community thats left and open up many doors for discussion and design. All you guys that like 1v1 posts but never make a 1v1 map, it starts with you. Mine is nearing completion btw. Please consider my words.
You know what? We failed to do a 1v1 contest for H5. We hit almost every possible category from community modes like Extermination to Griball, 8v8, Infection, etc. But we didn't do any contests for 1v1, 4v4 or mini-games. The first tournament I ever participated in was a 1v1 held here on ForgeHub. Was loads of fun and I want to bring that back some day. A contest followed up with a tournament and call it the same thing, which was 'Smackdown' back in 2010 or so. I think the community is a little bit thin right now to warrant a new Forge contest though...
Who says there has to be a money reward? We dont all come back day to day because were getting paid for it. You have the most influence of anyone here and if youd just announce something halfway formal im convinced people will jump onboard. We just need a spark of interest and people will follow.
It actually has nothing to do with money but population. If not that many people will be participating I don't think it will be worth the time to judge the content since there won't be enough submissions, which reduces the amount of competition. This is an extreme example that probably doesn't apply here, but a different Halo fan site hosted a contest and they only got 2 submissions. There were so few maps submitted that no one lost. These take loads of time to organize and judge, more than people think. I miss the good old days where we have to pour through over a hundred submissions, sometimes close to 200. I just don't think we'll see more than 30 maps if we host something here now.
The actual shooting mechanics/aim in this game is objectively bad. You can't argue that really. 1v1s emphasize those more than any other player count because you've taken away a skill factor that is there in every other player count, teamwork. Teamwork and map coordination are the only saving grace for those higher player counts to keep them fun and interesting. If you're setting out to design a 1v1 map in this game, you may as well scale it up a bit and make it for 2v2. Just my opinion, so take it as you will, but this is coming from someone who has pretty much exclusively designed for 1v1s and 2v2s since I've taken forge seriously.
@WARHOLIC Hell id say even ten submissions is a successful run but i believe there would be way more. When i say 1v1 is a desert im being literal.
The only way to make 1v1s interesting in this game is to make the map interactive, either with a key or some other player influenced dynamic. The sandbox and player traits themselves simply aren't good enough to make a "map but smaller" worth playing with only 2 people, which is probably why most Forgers haven't bothered. I actually would have been designing 1v1s if I could've gotten custom health pickups to work, but it's literally the only setting that isn't scriptable. Typical 343 programming.
I seriously just thought your comment was funny, actually laughed out loud and all. You put some time into writing that script, it was well done.
Shoot sorry man, I didn't think anyone would know what I was talking about since I was being super vague. I was a bit saddened by that honestly. Its what made me think the community was on a steep decline contest / population wise. Didn't mean anything personally by it.
