Not a parentage in the same way, certainly not similar enough to credit the use of statistics for the way we're using them. I mean, can you think of a better way to prove or disprove the idea of fiscal mobility within an entire nation OTHER than mass statistics? Especially ones as polarizing and telling as the ones xandrith provided that show around 80% of the lower class moving around of that bracket within the span of years.
I've already lived in a fairly poor family, and then on and off the streets, then in major debt, and now my dad is about to retire middle class, while I have no debt and a nice hybrid car. All this being said it's way to easy to fall back into poverty. I think the system is flawed, but not outright broken. There's my bit. Can someone PM me when WAYWO drops this topic?
I'm honestly blown away that this has devolved into an argument against statistics as an Idea, and that so many people seem to buy into the Idea that "Experience is significantly more valuable than data". Statistics are nothing more than a compilation of individual cases, at a large enough sample size to allow reliable inference and prediction. Again, this should help anyone who still doesn't get how ridiculously stupid that first claim really is. Anecdotal: (of an account) Not necessarily true or reliable, because based on personal accounts rather than facts or research.
It is social darwinism. --- Double Post Merged, May 18, 2017 --- I honestly wish I wasn't white. It would be much easier to get a corporate job with a less qualified resume. Google actually lost money because they were hiring less white men and asians. This led to them hiring people who were less qualified leading them to not have a good fiscal year.
meritocracy* --- Double Post Merged, May 18, 2017 --- Statistics are mean though. Statistics can be stacked in a way to promote what they want but anyone who likes statistics knows this and gathers as much statistical evidence as they can. Everything is on a bell curve anyways. QUADRUPLE MERGE
I'm on mobile! You can't fault me for spelling errors. You're right, though. Statistics can and will be manipulated. It is up to us individuals to sift through the propaganda
I actually would use this little fact to **** with my friend who was liberal because a good chunk of his stats were like this and every once in a while I would throw a similar counter argument at him to see if he could catch it. He only caught it once.
If you can predict human nature then you would be the richest man on earth. If you can predict every aspect of human nature with statistics, then can you explain to me why we have a stock market? I literally said "Primary and Secondary sources are complimentary." Yes, statistics matter, Im not arguing that. Seriously, how dense can you get. also that bit on "literally the most reputable source possible." gave me a good chuckle. I had no Idea Tabloid opinion peices written by some 20 yr old blogger from another country and is telling me love will solve any financial burden had an in-depth understanding of poverty in the united states.
You do realize there are firms that do do this and some of the richest people in the world are investors in it. It is one of those things you don't really hear about because people are irrational.
I probably know more about the stock market than anyone in this thread. Playing with stocks and opitions is nothing more than gambling because human nature is so unpredictable. If you can predict ever movement in the market with statistics then you could turn 100 dollars into billions within days.
Did I say that you can predict every aspect of Human nature with statistics? Of course I didn't. Your reading comprehension, or lack thereof, has proven to be quite the obstacle so far. We don't have to guess. We don't have to predict anything. According to the U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics, 80% of people born poor will eventually escape poverty. These are facts, not predictions. Your arguments are more and more off base every time you post. It's getting hard to link all of this nonsensical and irrelevant crap to the original topic.
That isn't even really a response to what I said and saying you know more about how it works doesn't make any point you say anymore sound. Also, you saying that it is nothing more than gambling kind of makes me think you don't know. There are plenty of companies that do this type of work. Trump's largest investor was such a company. (Renaissance Technologies) I also think you are exaggerating the point that was trying to be made about statistics.
