Guys, can we please take this elsewhere? I love seeing and discussing people's WIPs, it's great for inspiration and allows for less experienced forgers (like myself, let's be fair here) to make comparisons regarding piece usage, layouts, lighting etc and also get great early-stage comments. But perpetual arguing and passive-aggressive behaviour is burying actual WIPs, and making the thread really unwelcoming as a result. Newer members aren't going to want to post screenshots of their map in a hostile climate like this, and older members are just going to stop bothering.
Just saw your EDIT Goat. I am absolutely down for the game-play test. The map will be updated and ready to play this weekend. How does Sunday sound for our play-test? Ill gather a team and you do the same. @Dweeb , I need your skill buddy! We will be playing the updated version so if you would like to take a look at that first let me know as it has some changes that help solidify my design goals.
There is obviously a fundamental disagreement for the way we expect Halo to be played at this point. You think Halo should be a 4v4 team shooting game with tactical, incremental advancements, and you encourage "camping", for lack of a better word; I however am completely opposed to that gameplay and I think Halo functioned better as 2v2 game oriented around individual battles and heroic displays of ingenuity. Obviously this means that your map is not my playstyle, and I would never attempt to build a map like that, but I am personally not narrow-minded enough to dislike playing it based solely on that. I just think the map is far below its potential. I can think for myself and surmise that it features things I do not think play well in Halo. Just because I occasionally need a more seasoned designer to articulate that for me doesn't mean I cannot deduce that myself. I wasn't stupid when Halo 5 came out. But I will happily hold Seth, Multi, Purely, Kurismic, Box, Sitri, Schnitzel and anyone else I believe to know what they are talking about in high regard because I learn from them, the same as I have learned from you too. But even though I respect you tremendously I have been parsing your opinions based on our fundamental differences in design philosophies. Your design may very well work exactly the way you intend it and at that point it becomes a difference in whether or not it is good Halo or not. For the reasons I already articulated - radar, Spartan Abilities, slow weapons and ridiculous movement - I just don't think it is. This is squarely my opinion. I was in the party when Multi was giving you constructive feedback and respectfully disagreeing when you were adamant on your views. I made up my own mind based on what you were saying.
I think you guys will be pleasantly surprised with the changes I suggested he implement. The map will still play the way he wants but what you guys consider to be an issue should be a detrimental way to play the map.
You were making a game though if I recall. Also, who ever is talking about scaring people away. The fact we are talking about a specific map they can look up and design philosophy in general should attract people. I swear everyone is way to sensitive to people debating. Salty and Multi do need to make up and **** already though...
Also it's painfully obvious to anyone that I have no idea how to achieve my own design visions, or even why I have them. I am the person who scraps completely arted up maps that are more or less 2 hours from being done because they aren't what I wanted out of the design. Hell, I even scrap released maps for the same reason. This is why I avoid volunteering design opinions unless they are blatantly obvious. I don't think I've ever been much help to you with layouts @SaltyKoala because I've never injected them onto your maps, whether it was based around my preferences or what was already there. I just disagree with you, and I don't think it's fair that you are painting Multi in the kind of light you are especially when you guys usually get along and enjoy each other's ideas.
I mean it's done pending a rebuild and final art pass. I've showed the map to You, @MultiLockOn, @Given To Fly, @Brotastic Bear @Dweeb, @SaltyKoala, @Kurismic, @Lazy Animator, and @purely fat and nobody has had anything bad to say about it so far. But at this point I think the design is boring and it's probably just my immense dislike for any kind of Halo seething through.
