Checked out some new maps and WIPS last night. I have to admit, while it does suck the forge engine is becoming unstable, you guys really need to let up with the aesthetics if every map is going to have frame rate issues. People are pushing aesthetics to a cancerous level. I wont even look around maps that have frame rate drops anymore. Truth is no one ever goes back and fixes them, so you might as well label them aesthetic. Its time we all resort back to the beauty of CE simplicity. Its another reason why i feel a 1v1 comp would be welcomed. I still have it on my mind. As of now multi is the only one that has stated hes willing to donate anything, and a $100 match-me at that. Im looking for a little more interest. If this competition idea does gain traction, i will make sure its a formal and trusted pot with a trusted community member or a forgehub official comp via WARH0LICS consideration or it will not happen regardless. There is no plan for shady business here.
Yea let's stymie creative object usage and themes and regress on large scale level design because 343 can't get their **** together. Half of what makes Forge maps look good are the shapes of the geometry and going back to CE simplicity more often than not encourages Forgers to make their maps look like cardboard boxes.
Well to be fair, this past update really kicked the framerate out of pretty maps that were fine prior. For example my map Calypso had all of its framerate issues fixed in late November, only for some of them to pop back up despite the optimization I had done to the map. It's important that we have this "cancerous" level of aesthetics from some maps here and there, because a palette of plain walls with somewhat interesting geometry would make for a pretty lackluster forge community- every map would be the same. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the CE style, I just know that I (and many others) would grow sick of it if it was all we saw. Either we continue to optimize maps like this, or we just wait 4 years for the patch that will never come. I'm 100% on board for the 1v1 tournament.
I'd totaly match you 100$ m8, my wifu would kill me though... 1v1s are extremely easy to test and beautify, bring it on
Seeing this makes me wish I was an artist instead of a programmer, but it is what it is. The reason for me not being on Halo too much is because I got bored, and decided to do more work with programming and game development, and getting more familiar with UE and so on. I have a game that I just started production on, reminiscent of Azure Dreams. I'm not gonna promise anything, but I will eventually need some help in the field of sound/music and art. I already have someone for UI and story when it reaches that phase. If anyone is interested, email me at "ilimeyy@gmail.com" and as soon as I feel comfortable with a proof on concept, I'll be putting in more work and getting outside help to get everything going. This could be a great opportunity for some of the people here who want to get into the gaming industry. If it doesn't pan out, I'll probably start looking for other projects to join and may be able to help others do the same. Sincerely, Limey
Reach era forgers would be disgusted with all of your "themes" and "aesthetics" I decided that I can't forge in this game because there are literally almost unlimited possibilities. For any piece I place I feel like there is at least one piece that would work better, so I can never settle on anything. The limits of the old forges kept me in check.
CE simplicity doesn't hold up in a modern game. I don't want to play maps from an N64 game, I'm gonna push boundaries. Even if it is cancer. (which it is) With all the possibilities we have, I absolutely can't enjoy maps that look terrible. Obviously it doesn't impact design, but I don't see anyone making revolutionary designs with these **** simple blocks. My only enemy is the damn light map. It's never under 200% How is it 2016 2017 and single objects are still as black as midnight
A year ago I had a running list of maps I planned to make in this game. I'm proud to say I have finished a grand total of zero of them (after recalling Spellbound). I have: 6 WIPs (maps I can actually work on right now because they're interesting and at the forefront of my brain) 11 maps on the backburner (maps that need a layout overhaul that I can't be arsed to think about) 11 scrapped maps (designs that were either tested and proven unsatisfactory or held back by ugly art) 8 more planned that I never really bothered to Forge, including a Jackal Creek successor for BTB Adding up throwaway layouts and the total number of unique things I've forged is well over 40. I think the only other person who rivals that is Demption and the only other person that finishes maps as often as they start them is Chronmiester.
Just completed the blockout for my new Infection map called BASILISK! This is a remake of a map I designed back in Halo Reach called SEWERS. I've made some minor adjustments to the layout, things I originally intended but couldn't create due to the restrictions at the time. I've included the updated version of my sketchup concept as well. Now on to the fun part, making this look nice! What aesthetic theme should I apply to the map? I'm conducting a poll on twitter, you should vote! Click to Vote
