Ephasus is still one of the most impressive Halo 3 maps in my opinion. --- Double Post Merged, Dec 16, 2016 --- Also, does anyone remember trying to geomerge into the sand on Sandbox? Absolutely dreadful before ghost merging.
Welp, it was a fun week but i think i'm done. This is a great update but for me i'm still faced with my main problem in that I can't design layouts. It's only been exacerbated with this update because any stone-based fantasy theme looks like **** now compared to the sangheli pieces, but there aren't enough to do intricate detailing with them, so i'm forced to use terrain, which stagnates the design. Furthermore, Halo just isn't fun to build for. Players camp everywhere and verticality is ass in this game because it doesn't have any punishment for falling. Plus the movement and TTK are too slow to be aggressive, and here aren't even any interesting gametypes being played. I'm finding it harder to figure out why I still Forge
Why does terrain "stagnate design"? When in unfamilier territory a natural response is to play passive... So if you see players that are new to your map doing this, i wouldn't jump to the conclusion it's a direct result of your map.
Because terrain isn't interesting to look at if it's not interacting with structure, and you can't really do much with the Sangheli pieces because of the contrast with blocks. Nothing else has a worn down and broken look so there is a visual disconnect.
I think you can get pretty creative with them if you don't mind sacrafising alot of your piece count. I can send you an inv and show you how i've been working around that problem. I knew as soon as i laid out the new pieces, repetition would be a problem. I beleive up to this point i've done quite well, and ofcourse with some room for improvement...
I mean I've blown my own mind several times but I haven't made a layout that's impressed me yet. --- Double Post Merged, Dec 17, 2016 --- I feel like I've used them in as many ways as I will need at this point, but they still can't replace simple building blocks and rings
Working on an Infection map in the Depths canvas. The water reflection built into the canvas is breaking what I have so far, though. -_-
https://www.forgehub.com/maps/dark-matter.4297 So my new map is available for play testing. Here is a quick vid of the interactive hazard. Not sure of weapons or optimal player counts yet, but it very clearly a corridor style map. I had so much fun building my particle cannon while learning the new scripting system that I built a map around it so who knows how good it plays
