I can't believe Xandrith stirred this much debate in one sentence lmao. Forge related question. When I place ivy and generate lighting it turns the objects under it black from its shadow. Is there a way to turn it off? I don't see the light bake option.
You piqued an unresolved question in my head from the Reach days. In Reach's forge, if you centered any kind of spawn point/hill marker type of object over or under (basically they had to occupy the same x and y coordinates) a solid piece (like a block) it would, without fail, make the solid piece appear the brightest it could be while in forge. It never made sense to me.
Oblivion by Multilockon is less hostile than this thread. I'm working on an aesthetic map right now. (Please don't kill me)
What does Jesus have to do with this homie? BEGIN GOD DEBATE AND GET THIS MF THREAD CLOSED FOR GOOD GO.
Anyway, now that the steam has dispersed i'm just going to throw in my two cents on the whole discussion: First of all, I hope nobody really feels the need to walk around on eggshells - not around me and not around anyone. The Forge community is a creative community that thrives on peer interaction. Without it, we would not be challenged to do our best. We all deserve feedback because nobody sets out to make something bad. I would not want anyone to pull their punches around me. I take the quality of my work very seriously, but I don't always see its flaws or discover solutions until I interact with other people. I want to keep that channel open and I would want the ability to blunt around others as well. But I believe it is first and foremost about the content we are producing, and not the individuals producing that content; therefore feedback should always be directed to the maps themselves. I have not given a lot of feedback because, as I have mentioned before, I don't really have credentials of my own to speak of. I only speak up around people who will recognize my experience and not retort with "shush Goat you have no maps", which is why I brought up the **** measuring thing. It is natural for people to question the abilities of someone when they receive feedback that they disagree with, so we end up comparing each other. Skill level is relevant sometimes when we are receiving feedback, but we're not really in a race and most of us are doing this for a hobby, so comparing and ranking each other's abilities doesn't interest me. I recognize that the greater Halo community sometimes raises individuals or designs up higher than others and that may be seem unfair, but I still don't think that is a reason to tear down those individuals or their designs. Rather, it is a long standing problem in the community that we would need to work on to dispel. I'm not an amazing artist but I consider art one of my strong points and I continue to invest in and hone those abilities. Therefore, anytime I am giving art related feedback, I am doing it from my experience with visual design. There are plenty of people here who also have art or graphic design related backgrounds and they can offer great feedback to that end, even if it's blunt. However, one thing you will find being stressed in any visual design course is the proper way to take and give constructive feedback. There are whole modules dedicated to educating people on professional critique. To paraphrase: feedback should be given with the intent to encourage the person to make their creation better. The courses also teach people how to receive and sift through feedback, which is a skill of its own. It is more realistic to expect someone to be receptive to feedback then it is to expect people to give proper feedback to begin with. The reality is that you can only control your own reaction. When it comes to video games, a lot of feedback will be based on visceral experiences, and that leads to visceral responses. So the onus is on everyone to take time to reflect before they open their mouths. Xandrith was stating an opinion and not necessarily offering his feedback, which is fine. Everyone has the right to share their thoughts and not be judged for it, which is why I created the unpopular opinion thread a while ago. It was a good place to share what was on your mind and challenge other people on their radical views. But as far as feedback goes, whether it is direct or otherwise, the least we can do is be tactful and constructive. I've given feedback to a few people that wasn't very constructive. Most of them were people I feel comfortable being blunt around - and I would expect the same from them - but I acknowledge that I may have unintentionally hurt some of their feelings. I've had my feelings hurt on several occasions as well (not by Multi for the record) because we invest a lot of time and energy into our craft. When we hit walls or hear criticism, it's only natural to get discouraged. I am personally easily discouraged because I have strong visions for my projects and don't always know how to meet them. But I think it would be a disservice to everyone if we stopped being critical, or even less critical because of how others might react. Again, this is a community that thrives on the interactions with its peers, and it is important that we establish a collective standard of feedback to not only push people to excel, but to encourage more people to share their work. The weekly test lobbies have done a great job of doing that, but we can go further.
I'm pretty sure everyone has said the same thing like 17 times, so I've stopped reading at this point, lol. I literally never take the "schnitzel route" when giving feedback. Anyone who's gotten feedback from me wither in a party or on a map post knows that. I was just passing by and stating something, but I know it came off douchy. I've apologized to Mynx and Goat, so if you feel offended and aren't those two, I'm sorry.
Yea it's cool my wall was just on the general subject and not necessarily on the circumstances. It's relevant to something that has been going on for a bit longer than yesterday.
If you see me posting anywhere other than forgehub it's not me, my accounts have been hijacked. There's some shady **** going on
@MultiLockOn Yea man, done some serious research for you. I will be making a post here shortly. @Everyone Else Long story short, if you are worried or share your passwords on multiple sites, please don't be a victim of hijacked accounts. It's some scary business.
Here is the deal, Schnitz. You haven't changed. It isn't that the kitchen is hot. It is that you use a flame thrower and then tell people they need to put up with it. ok i will be silent.
I can honestly say Schnitz has changed quite a bit. Also, he rarely ever posts on here anymore... Not excusing his past, or even current behavior, just saying he deserves some credit.
