I just wanna thank 343 for giving all these players the option for second chances on plays they should be absolutely punished for
Right. And it's just a "god damn" video? You can take it as seriously as you want to. Obviously that video, like many others on my channel, aren't supposed to be serious. I wouldn't put ridiculous quotes or **** 343 if I cared for exposure and wanted the video to go viral like Illadris did for demption. I'm not doing this to please other people.
I can understand, but for the forgers this Halo has the best forge Halo has ever seen. Which is what I'd assume would matter the most for most forgers. There are still a lot of points to improve on for 343, but looking at a total perspective the current state of Halo is a lot better than it was since H3. (Even though 343 has been part of the reason for its downfall) So the whole '**** 343' is a bit much imo. --- Double Post Merged, Mar 13, 2016 --- K cool, if you wanna look like an ass then you do you.
The best thing 343 could've done for the forge community is not irreversibly kill the halo fan base. NOT give us better forge tools. The halo 3 forge scene was unimaginably larger and healthier than it is now, despite working with sticks and stones. Weird how that works
Like I said, I don't hate 343, I just hate what they have done as a collective. Some parts of halo have improved thanks to them (forge), it's just that there are way more things they have ****ed up than gotten right. That's partly because Halo 3 had the largest player base, so of course the number of forgers was the highest too.
Multi the map is not a campaign level what are you doing. Trash. I mean honestly who makes multiplayer maps to play multiplayer. I like your wooden mounds though. 343 is love and life as well. They have bared many of my children and are a beautiful women.
Right. That's my point. For the forge scene, a healthier game is better than improved forge tools, as ironic as that is.
The nature of Halo being a serially-escalating franchise means the lore was bound to be privy to ****ery at some point even with Bungie at the helm. The emphasis on Cortana starting back in 3 and continuing to this day is lame, but considering how relatively unique she is as a human construct the universe revolving around her makes sense to some extent. At least with Halo 5 they finally did some housekeeping and narratively we're back to where we started in CE: two major, warring parties with one having an ostensible upper hand (Covenant / Humanity, Created / Creators) just disabled a core human world, leaving a uniquely powerful human flagship to make an emergency jump into a random slipspace trajectory. Chances are in Halo 6 the Infinity will stumble upon something new only for the mysterious third party to shake up Created forces enough to give Locke a fighting chance. While the gravitas of the story beats are much more understandable - even at a deeper level - compared to Halo 4, that's in part because the story beats this time around were substantially less impactful. That being said, I think it was the right choice because it was clear this time around that the plot was basically just designed to cater to the encounter design, of which Halo 5 has had some of the best since Reach and CE, albeit with markedly less enemy variety (which I'm hoping is a top priority for Halo 6). I mean, listing them out, it becomes pretty clear we're seeing diminishing returns with narrative impact: CE: Discover alien ringworld and the Flood, blow that **** up 2: Covenant find Earth, Arbiter and pals dissolve the Covenant 3: Ark stuff I guess? Chief goes napping 4: Didact wakes up and then gets shoved into a portal, Infinity is a thing now, Cortana dies 5: Forerunner internet finally finishes power cycling, Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris deal with tech support for 15 missions The ending of 5 makes things pretty binary faction-wise, but it is admittedly probably the biggest shake-up to the universe since Halo 2, so. If anything, I blame MS, not 343 specifically. The former are trying to squeeze blood out of a rock and the latter just happen to be the implements.
I think the issue is that it is incredibly difficult to reconcile the Halo universe Bungie created with the direction 343 has taken it. CE, 2, 3, ODST, Reach have this incredible feel to them, where the story is only partially centred around Chief/Cortana. Many things to do with the Forerunners were mysterious, and the nature of the campaigns made it feel like the player was only a very small part of a very large struggle. 4 and 5 have very few plot elements revolving around anybody but the Chief/Cortana(/Locke), so the Universe feels significantly smaller. There is almost nothing that remains of the initial mystery surrounding the Forerunners. I reckon this exchange best represents what the role of the Forerunners should be in the Halo universe, but one which they no longer occupy: 343 Guilty Spark: "The history of all Forerunners was now lost to us. We relied upon the permanence of the Domain to preserve our record of the events that led to this point. But without that record, would future civilizations know anything about us? Or only of our weapons? My fellow Monitor, 049 Abject Testament, had only one comment on this before we went our separate ways." 049 Abject Testament: "We deserve to be forgotten."
Yeah it's massive. Massive ****. Everything about 343 cannon sounds like a poor reddit fan fic. It might be the worst writing I've seen out of a triple AAA game of halo's caliber. It's deeper, sure. Not in a good way. If you think the halo 5 story and writing was anything but appalling then I'm not even going to have this conversation.
Isolation On another note, anyone have anything they've been working on? We should start a thread for that or something... Jkjk
Colossus is a pretty good example IMO. Plays high balcony vs the rest of the map as opposed to side vs. side.
The Forerunner lore is all garbage. Nobody cares about an ancient race seeding humanity 100,000 years ago. It's rubbish fantasy. Easiest way to lose me in a story is to write an "alternate history" with aliens dating that far back. Prometheus did it and it was just as stupid. Transformers did it and it was less stupid only because you already spent your suspension of disbelief on 80 story tall toys smashing things. Humans that used to space travel 100,000 years ago until they were "devolved" and an ancient librarian who has been orchestrating everything behind the scenes to stop ancient voldemort tho?
