@xzamplez The map is just incomplete last time I checked. When I came back for Evolved testing we snuffed it for a finished map.
Goat's design process: Step 1: Do I have a new map idea? No - Go on Pinterest Yes - See step 2 Step 2: Is it doable in Forge? LOLno - See step 1 Ya know, it just might be - See step 3 Step 3: Can I think of a layout? ....no - See step 1 Of course... - See step 4 Step 4: Do I like the layout? Nope - See step 3 Yep - See step 5 Step 5: Do I really like the layout? Is it actually creative, or is it just competent? No it sucks - See step 3 Yes it's legit - See step 6 Step 6: Does the layout maximize the potential of the theme? It's kinda wasting it tbh - See step 3 This is as good as it gets - See step 7 Step 7: Will I have budget to finish the layout? ....**** - See step 3 ***** I got this - See step 8 Step 8: Will the map have performance issues? Duh... - See step 1 I think we good - See step 9 Step 9: Will the map impress and inspire people? Nah - See step 1 Hell yea! - See step 10 Who ****ing cares - See step 11 Step 10: Are you going to finish it? No - See step 11 Yes - See step 11 Step 11: Forge the map for a week. Did you scrap it? Yes - See step 1 No - See step 12 Step 12: Scrap it anyway Step 3 is the hardest lol
Happy birthday to the goat @Goat One day you'll finish something and we will play it until the sun explodes
There's endless inspiration on Pinterest and artstation, but the more I look, the more I recognize that patterns. It makes me want to make stuff that you couldn't possibly find. It's a tall order, but I have a few ideas that I keep trying to find pictures for, and I just cant. That makes me very happy. And if there's any true way to comparatively measure creative originality, it's Pinterest. That place has it all.
Never been on pinterest. I just google about 3 or 4 images for some details of the idea I have and the rest comes naturally. And not even all maps, some of my themes are just straight doodling.
I think I should dust of my xbone and buy Ori next week. I watched 2 minutes of gameplay and already fell in love with the soundtrack.
I cant get into any metroidvania type games anymore. Ori didnt impress me, but was really polished. Hollow Knight is pretty good too, but all those types of games are the same. Get "x" ability to double jump or blast through walls to progress etc. It has been done to death and the only way i could get into a game like that again would be if it had a really mature theme and was set in some sort of apocalyptic future or some sort of hellscape. Dantes inferno could be a cool theme to see someone interperet into a metroidvania. Still, id probably get bored of it in an hour like i do with all the others
Yeah I've played Dante's Inferno lol. I know what you mean. But the style, graphics, sounddesign and kinda magical feeling really appeal to me. Anyone playing Unravel 2? I loved the first one, graphics, emotion, puzzles, music. Really something else.
I get that. The only things I hold against Ori are its simple enemy design and lack of replay value. Ori's strength is in its presentation and storytelling moreso than its gameplay design (which is indeed polished despite not reinventing the genre). I could see how a genre reinvention would be more interesting though. There's a lot of potential there.
