This is exactly the approach I used when I made Corona in H4. I think it can work quite well. It's always fun to approach map making from different angles.
What is you guys' opinions on putting tier 2 weapons on weapon pads rather than the usual power weapons? I think it would be a neat way to freshen things up by breaking the monotony of every map having a sniper and a plasma caster, and make control of weapons that people sometimes walk past crucial to the game. Thoughts?
One of the main purposes of power weapons is to influence movement. On most maps, you need something powerful to accomplish this. The more powerful a weapon, the more it influences movement. I personally find it hard to believe you can accomplish the same thing with tier 2 weapons, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. I was thinking maybe Coors, but you kind of already did the **** theme I was planning to go with it, so back to the drawing board I guess.
I don't particularly find the concept of running around stacking power ups appealing. It takes away from the moment to moment encounters when over half of them are against a player with a buff, especially in CQB. If we could zipline across the map like a true Arena shooter, then maybe it'd be a different story. Otherwise, I don't think 4 powerups will work in this game. Damage Boost and Speedboost are certainly worth exploring, but it's difficult to fit 2 powerups into a map in this game, let alone 4.
No xandrith they don't. Two big problems with them 1. You can see 90% of the powerups from the initial spawns. 2. The power ups on purelys map take everything good about halo powerups and completely do away with them.
I've been working on a 2 vs 2 map that include elevators but I have nobody to test it currently. Plan on doing that actually, today.
This is what happens when you don't finish your maps Goat. Somebody takes your map's name!! lol http://www.forgehub.com/maps/genesis.1663/
Nah Genesis was a code name for any map I made based off of that mission. We've already had several maps named Genesis in past titles and I don't like the thought of reusing a name. But scenarios like that is why I avoid settling on generic one word names, especially if they're already in the Halo universe. It's unlikely that 343 is going to name a map "Arbiter", so it might pass for a Forge map; however, if somebody were to ever do a google search on the map, how would they find it if it's named after something else in the game? I tend to list out a map's potential names while i'm building it and go with something simple, catchy and memorable. So this usually ends up being a compound - one word that describes the theme, and another word that describes either the design of the map itself or how it plays. You could also go left field and pick something silly like Chill Out. I've always been fond of the simple names and descriptions the Halo CE maps use, and so far the best Forge map to make use of that style was a Chill Out remake in Halo 4 named "Rock Hard". Unfortunately, since our maps don't "exist" in an official capacity, we can't really get away with generic names like "Guardian". Something obscure like "Torque" however is more puzzling. 343 using "Orion" was one thing, but now I get the feeling somebody over there is perusing the forums for names. hideyomaps.gif
