It's not personal. The forge community is partially built around this website. It's a compliment to the site that people look to the staff to lead the way. The one thing I'll say based upon my experience on staff is that it's easy to get hung up on putting out super high quality content, when it's not always necessary. In a lot of scenarios, doing something with decent quality is better than doing nothing. I always noticed a tendency to delay content, or outright fail to complete or release it, because the bar was set higher than necessary. High quality content is ideal, obviously. What's more important though is consistency. When you commit to regular content like weekly updates or community favorites, it's REALLY important to follow through, even if the quality is sometimes lower. There are a lot of people that are able and willing to help with writing and/or videos. There's never been a shortage of interest whenever the call for help has gone out. I know that people joke about how many staff members there are, but I understand how it goes, and there's no such thing as too many staff. There needs to be people there that can pick up the slack. Problems always arise when you rely on 1 or 2 people to do something. There NEEDS to be regular content that focuses on maps submitted to the site. Once per week would be ideal. Once every other week would be reasonable at this stage in the games life. Once a month should be the bare minimum. It doesn't need to be super fancy. You don't need a 'Forgehub Feature' every week. It can be a sneak preview of a WIP. It can be spotlight that just has 1 or 2 pictures and a basic explanation of the map. Focus on content that you know you can deliver consistently. Then, if there's only an official 'Feature' once every 2 months for a stretch of time, it's not going to be as big a deal.
I said this a couple months ago and I'll say it again, if you're a staff member and your busy schedule is making your presence in this community non existstant, than resign. This is a dead game with a dead community. We're barely surviving, and it's because of this site. There are still active members who would be, in my opinion, good fits for staff positions because they're still engaged with the community. No disrespect to any current staff member, I appreciate all that you do. And there's absolutely some who still contribute quite a bit. But hell I hardy even see most the staff post around here. If your life is too busy for forgehub, which is entirely understandable, step down.
Thanks for the feedback @a Chunk. You'll always be #1 in my eyes. So let me settle some things. In the past 1.5 years of me being on staff, I believe that I have let go more people from staff than those who actually stay. For the betterment of the time of me being admin, these guys do more than just comment or create threads on the forum. They host streams, to play endless amounts of customs, testing lobbies, etc. Now I will say that Chunk is right and we have internally discussed this before and we just got done discussing it a little while ago, it's been a long time since featuring maps was a thing. The team has some guidance now and plan on doing more features in the near future. If anyone has any recommendations, please PM any of the staff members Back to the staff being on staff thing though, when we have held recruitment drives, there aren't a lot of members who are 'active' who would want to dedicate their time to site. There were several candidates who just wanted the title. I can't recall all of the past staff members who are just regular members now, but I do believe a lot of them do know how much effort writing an article on weekly basis, capturing footage and composing it into a video, or even have the skills to create artwork that works with the article at hand. So I am going to be real with you, yes the those who aren't active are let go. Those who actively participate in some shape or form with the staff, usually stay. Letting staff members go who aren't actively present in the staff chats, forums or online usually know that decision of being let go is coming at some point. Right now not all staff members are as active as they were 1.5 years ago when I joined and we all know the reason for that is because H5 is getting old for the community and this is what usually happens during the low peak member active days. Lastly if you ever have applied in the past since I have been admin, I would have gladly like to see this sort of enthusiasm out of a community member who is passionate for Halo/FH and active on the site. That's what we want and need for the creative content to continue.
Havent started anything for weeks, but I got this going today and I think it may turn out to be a decent 1v1.
Hey, I think it looks good! No, but seriously, I have no idea what its gonna look like if I continue with it.
Hey Chronmeister, sorry for any confusion, but since ForgeHub was only hosting the 1v1 competition on the site, and not actually in charge of it, that call was up to Multi. How he decides to handle the contest results and publication was left for him to produce, since we did not want to interferer or force any calls to be made on his behalf. Because of that there were no videos planned to cover the results of the competition itself, outside of making one announcement video for it, since it was going to be held on our site in the first place. Hope this clears things up
