Each map i make has its own set of goals, and whether or not i met them determines if it is a successful endeavor or not. My goal has never been to ‘dazzle’ others. If people enjoy my maps, thats certainly a positive result, but not necessarily the primary goal.

See I disagree about feeling sorry for myself, I'd rather think that I know nothing rather than push my ideas as quality.

I do think I have some pretty good ideas sometimes, but when it comes to execution I'm just not there yet.

If you are happy with it, let us all see what your standards are and at least share a link so we can get a look. When I say "New' , I mean a unique encounter. I think creating a truly unique shootout in the beginning of a match would be an accomplishment for any forger. You could do that, or something completely different. Point is, you are one of the good ones. We all need forgers like you to aspire to and if you arent participating, we stagnate.

lol at resident workhorse chron the legend himself throwing stones

    forge is dad
    halo is dad
i bought live to reforge some maps but
then xandrith started using unreal and now i downloaded a bunch of storyboarding programs to work on animation

i agree, soon as forge moves from a creative waste of time to work, you may as well use a real editor.

If it makes you feel any better, most creative people think they're ****.

Most of my limitations stem from a lifelong obsession with seeing the good in things, and that doesn't translate well whenever I try to do anything involving art. My hands can be surgeon steady when I'm making complex cuts on meats and vegetables, but all of a sudden I develope parkinsons when I try to draw any kind of picture.

That's why forge has been such a huge influence in my life (well as much as I've seriously focused on trying to improve for halo 5). I have this medium that forces my ideas to have a definitive shape, and right now I'm figuring out (painfully slowly) how this translation works. Tack on my own reservations about wanting to learn level design by trial and error rather than actually research basic principles (in hopes that my wack-ass ideas will bolster my creativity in the long run), and you have one big and frustrating process that I will continue to apologize to everyone for.

And @Goat I appreciate the kind words, but like chron said earlier I'm at a point where no amount of kindness will help me improve anymore (at least in my opinion). I'll take any criticism I can get, but I have to default to pure cynicism. So if anyone sees a good trend or idea I happen to stumble upon, be sure to beat me over the head with it so I'll notice haha

I understand, I just don't think you should feel bad about being mediocre. Forge for fun, forge to learn, forge to grow. But take it slow dude.

I'm painfully aware what I can and can't do. People think I'm a good drawer, or chef, or photographer but I'm mediocre too. And that doesn't bother me one bit. I don't have the ambition to be the best at anything.

In the end, I do all of those things for my own enjoyment.

I don't feel bad about it, I said I feel mad lol

I'm okay with the long process, but I'll be mad until I consider my work to be at least palletable

Thats quite a bit of pressure, dont you think? Forge is just a hobby to me. A very passionate hobby, but still a hobby. My process is natural, to keep it as enjoyable as possible, and forcing out maps, for whatever reason, would be against why i forge.

Forcing Hubris into the 1v1 contest is a great example. Had i put the necessary time into testing, as opposed to submitting it, i wouldve fixed the issues it has. There is a lot of things i like about the map, but theyre overshadowed by its issues.

@qrrby I am going to give you the same advice I gave Chron a billion years ago now. Don't let people saying your **** stop you (that includes yourself). You just need to grind. Some people can only get better by constantly iterating. We all vary in talent to start but that doesn't mean that through hardwork you can't improve a ton. Don't force it though. The ideas need to come naturally which I am pretty sure they do for you.

I completely agree with this. Some of the most skilled athletes, artists, business people, etc were at some point mediocre. To be honest, I'd say most everyone who chats in waywo here and has WIP is developing their skills, which is the greatest thing to keep doing. As soon as you stop growing and developing your art and skills, you lose.

To be fair, the stock market has been ridiculous this past year. One of the best years in the century.

This is an awesome game, though. This and Red Dead were the only games that i anticipated for the last year or two.

How good is it because I have a few friends playing it and I enjoyed the original other than cooking.

Pretty damn good. Im not very far into it, though.

The biggest drawback is the overall tedious aspect of learning the convoluted system of upgrading/crafting, and being able to play with friends has stupid restrictions at times.

That's usually how I learn; doing things over and over again until it finally sticks helps.

I wasn't trying to say that I don't think I'm improving, moreso that liking everything I make was turning into a hindrance. So now I'm trying to look at everything I make like it's hot garbage, and then being pleasantly surprised when something works or I actually really enjoy a particular aspect during testing a map.

Things like what everyone has said in the past 12 hours, or Goat saying there's a layout in there somewhere is what I'm looking for from myself; even something as simple as the great Xandrith liking one of my WIP posts keeps me focused on what I'd like to see from myself.

Seriously though, it's been a wonderful couple handfuls of hours everyone (you should drink more often chron lol)
