Someone should make a map that has a skee-ball game where a center shot gives a spartan laser/nornfang
@Xandrith If you want grass to grow just play on PC with the settings turned down. You will watch plants grow and die in an instant.
Soon. I spent more time on the rat race map than expected sunday. Also, I am always five days later than I say on this site. Also, if you don't want to wait go watch @Sethiroth 's stream from Saturday night. I showed off a bunch of stuff on it.
Speaking of hype, @purely fat where you at on that shirt? For reals make a better "I gud at 4ge" design and I'll get the winner picked
I'm looking for the best of the best scripter for a map element. I'm trying to push the key concept a bit further but there's a lot of moving parts involved. Hit me up on discord Christian #7786
Can that same person make a super polished Team Crazy King too while they're at it. Or Extraction. That'd be just as cool if not better.
You should all probably be glad that I'm not judging because I've played like 200 1v1's now and I honestly don't think any of the maps deserve the kind of money this contest is offering. I know it sounds harsh, but almost every map has at least one game-breaking problem and the ones that don't are underwhelming in terms of design. I will say this.... A lot of what is coming up isn't super obvious at first. When you have one objective, and that objective can move, they can just find the spot with the least amount of entrances and camp. It's really frustrating to see, but I think it can largely be attributed to the fact that most people aren't familiar with 1v1's at all within the context of spartan abilities and the ridiculously loud sound queues that are much harder to track with more players on map. With that being said, people should have tested their maps and looked for these problems. They really haven't been hard to find in my games when we stress tested. It's understandable that people don't like camp or run away all the time, but if you really tested for the highest level of play (trying to win at all costs) then you would've definitely seen these problems emerge in a few games. Overall, I think this is the lowest quality map pool we've ever had for a contest. I'm not saying that to try and be degrading or arrogant at all, so please don't take this as an attack of any kind. I'm mostly just bummed out.
I'll double on this, as we've been testing together constantly. If this were money coming out of MY pocket for this contest, I probably would've just cancelled the contest. Seriously. Every map either has an awful spawn trap or a single spot that is impossible to flush with consistency. I wish I would've streamed the games tonight because they were embarrassing. Xandrith is a much, much better player than me but I was able to cheese him out of like 7 of the 9 games we played tonight. By pretty large margins too. Seems like people really didn't test their maps at all this time around, and I'll attribute it to the fact that 1v1 maps are their own beast and it's pretty obvious to me that people aren't used to building for them. The maps look like small 2v2 maps for the most part and you can't get away with the same design styles that work in other player counts. Overall, I don't think there's a single map submitted to this contest that I would actually load up and play for fun in their current iterations. If anyone is curious you can look at my game history from tonight on waypoint and bookmark the games from tonight. The top 3 maps that I've chosen as winners for the contest I would probably describe as "ok but heavily flawed" if I were asked about my thoughts on them. Very disappointing.
