This was a thread I saw on waypoint earlier today (07/11/15) talking about how bitter the halo community has become. And whilst the game made his points (some valid issues like quitters) he brought it around to blaming the veterans of the halo community being bitter about the game changing from what it used to be. Sadly the thread was locked before I could reply to point some things out to him and my own tread about the topic was shut down within seconds by a asshat-ish mod who not only didn't read my opening statement about it not being an attack on the person, but rather trying to relieve the tension and accusations people have been throwing around such as veteran bitterness, casual retards ruining the franchise etc etc. I'll include my side if anyone wants to read it. Spoiler: My responce In response to a thread that was previously locked before I could post this reply. This isnt intended as a lash or a callout to the person or persons who posted in the thread, I just want to make my point and the supposed bitterness of this community. Point below: I think this applies to the whole gaming community and the idustry as a whole and for multiple reasons, some right and some wrong. 1. With the advent of mobile gaming and micro payments, the industry attracted a whole new genre of players. This only really worked for the mobile part of the gaming industry in that everyone can play in this age of smart phones and 4G, but the console side didnt really benefit. However, this didnt stop console developers taking the ideas and applying them to their own games. Micro payments are the bane of this generation of games (See DA: Inquisition, COD, and the Halo 5 Req system to name a few) 2. Developers seem to be under the impression that it is acceptable to advertise content and show content that is not in the final release content. Now this comes with a pinch of salt. Sometimes some content has to be cut becuase it is either too complex to develope and deliver to a good standard and/or there isnt enough time to develope it for the games release (Like deleted scenes in films). This is acceptable cut content. What isnt okay is taking parts of the game to sell later for absurd prices (Looking right at you Bungie/Bungivison/-Yoinks!-) or advertising the game as something that it isnt (or doesnt hold up to the promise) like the Halo 5 campaign. And also *cough cough* gametypes, decent not forged maps *cough cough* 3. Fans. With such a diverse player base opinions and disagreements will be everywhere. This is simply down to the age of the industry and the franchise itself.4. Changes in vision or direction. I.e 343 not making either Halo 4 or Halo 5 to cater for ALL players of ALL variants (within reason) but for casuals and the later pros. It splits the base drastically and at the end of the day, ruins the game, its lifespan and the sequels from loss of population. With all that taken into account, to say that veterans are being bitter is wrong on many levels. It alienates the veterans further and makes them out to be -Yoinks!-. All players are to blame for bitterness, but all are also innocent. It just happens when so many different people are together. I myself am a veteran of the early years of halo. Do I like Halo 5? Yes. Are there some aspects I think 343 shouldve done differently? Yes. But to their credit, they are are trying to remedy that with FREE dlc. Last time I checked there are worse developers than that for the same thing *cough cough* Bungie, Destiny, £140 for a full proper game *cough cough* TL : DR Stop giving 343 -Yoink-, stop giving veterans -Yoink-, stop giving casuals -Yoink-.... stop giving -Yoink- to everyone. Its not nice.Everyone is to blame. And if skipped, please go back and read it. Took me 30 minutes to write on a tablet.Peace. Is this it? Are we becoming old people who yell at kids to get off the lawn? I mean I thought I was only 21, turns out I maybe 70 odd :s (On another note, was I wrong for trying to make this known? I mean I think are still a lot worse threads going than mine)
