(not sure if this is the exact forum so don't murder me if I'm wrong?) So I wanna break into the Machinima thing I have been wanting to for quite some time actually. but alas, I have no means of capturing footage. So here is my dilema I am going to buy a said mean but what to buy...? currently I am looking at a Dazzle 90 other ideas? dvd recorder? I have a d. camcorder but i can't for the life of me get it to show the 360 screen on the cam Suggestions? help?
I own a dazzle DVC 90, and it works great, however they stopped making them, and i got mine off ebay, i took the risk of buying a simi used one that from a electronic shop in new jesery, and im glad i did. However getting the Dazzle DVC 90 to work on windows vista was a *****, the capture device came with the recording software Studio 9, and that didnt work on vista, after looking on the website, i found a 1gb file for studio 10 with vista support, and it turned out it needed a serial number, and my studio 9 one didnt work, after talking to a few people in high places, i got a serial number. And it still didnt work, after i got a notice that it could be upgraded to studio 10.8, it finnaly worked. You also have to consider your CPU speed for video capturing I have a Intel Core 2 Duo that clocks at 2.2Ghz and i don't drop any frames when recording. Get a capture card, don't use a camcorder, you want your videos to look nice. machinima can be a costly thing. Good computer with a processor that can clock to atleast 1.6Ghz is good for recording. Capture Cards are around 80-200 dollars. If you do it like i do and want to have the screen shown on your tv, and computer, you need 3 av Y-cables that can be from $10-$30.
My comp is a Sony Maio MCE 2004 3.0Ghz Processor 1gb of ram ATI 2600 pro HD video card I think a dazzle looks the best I'll look into some computer stores and as a last resort ebay or Craigs list.
You defiantly have the Specs to do it, dont forget to get a better video editing program, never ever use windows movie maker.
Go with the Dazzle Platinum... It is like 90 bucks at Best Buy...I am just about to go get one myself lol.
the dazzle DVC 90 isnt bad, But being that they dont make them anymore, I don't know if I would go ebaying to get one. sorry if I can be of any help
The most important thing is the signal splitter... If you aren't too concerned with quality, you can always opt to use a video camera. Alternatively, buy a cheap(but not too cheap) DVD recorder and use that. Keep in mind this requires using DVDs, which cost more money. Both options eliminate your computer from doing the actual recording. Of course, it'll maximize quality to go directly. But if you're doing Machinima, you'll also need to record voices, and get sound clips from the game. If you want it to sound decent, try soundproofing a small room, and doing voice acting in there. Realize nobody uses the actual recorder audio. It's all added on later. That means any ambient effects, music, and voice have to be added in separately. IE: If you aren't willing to commit, don't bother.
If you have a lower price range check this one out: http://gadizmo.com/easycap-usb-review.php Costs around $25 and should allow you to play on your computer screen. After that it is a simple issue of choosing screen cap software such as GameCam or FRAPS. I ordered one a few days ago. When it gets here I'll probably put some videos on YouTube or something to show the quality. Tim
Not sure if your still looking, but here is a nice site with info on specific capture cards with quality tests included. http://www.halo3forum.com/montage-video-help/96968-capture-card-database-names-prices-descriptions-more.html
