Welcome aboard the UNSC Sparrow. Your mission: Investigate an unidentified naval vessel floating off the coast of Forgeworld. Spoiler To be clear, this is map contains two ships, one water ship and one air ship, both located in the far left water area relative to Forgeworld’s hangar bay. Players will be able to jump from ship to ship by teleporters or by aircraft (depending on gametype). Max recommended number of players: 8. So meet the UNSC Sparrow. Spoiler UNSC Sparrow images: Angled perspective of the ship from above: Spoiler View of the ship from directly above: Spoiler Vew of the ship from the rear: Spoiler A closer look at the roof : Spoiler This side is identical to the other side of the ship. On the bottom left is a bunker where a receiver node is located and is also where the capture plate will appear for Assault. View of the starboard side hangar bay : Spoiler This image is from the One Flag CTF gametype, where the shields and vehicles will appear. View of the hangar from inside: Spoiler The shields and vehicles will not be present for symmetrical games. The hallway on the top left of the image leads to the bridge and to the forward cargo area. On the far side of the image is a ramp that leads into a small enclosure that houses a teleporter that transports the user to the roof inside a small bunker. This is identical to the left side of the ship. View of the forward cargo area: Spoiler The teleporter on the right is only for symmetric games and leads to the upper rear deck of the Mermaid. Also you can see the two cannons here that bump you to the top of the ship. Say hello to the Wandering Mermaid. Spoiler The Wandering Mermaid images: View from the stern of the ship: Spoiler Here you can see the two doorways into the front cabin, which contain 2 ramps leading to the lower deck. View of the stern from the main deck: Spoiler Directly under the steering wheel in front of the blue square is a ramp leading to the lower deck. Behind that blue square is the rear cabin, which also contains another pair of ramps. Inside the lower deck viewing the stern: Spoiler The path on the left leads to the rear “storage area” as well as the rear ramps. On the right, you can see the main artillery cannons behind the window. Inside the lower deck viewing the bow: Spoiler The two ramps lead up to the front cabin. The teleporter at the very front is only present in symmetric games and leads to the bridge of the Sparrow. Inside the lower deck viewing the cannons: Spoiler They are simply warthogs. Just jump in the rear and start firing away! I left the front sides open because you can still jump in the driver and passenger seats even if they were covered. Map Notes: Games currently supported: Neutral Bomb Assault, One Flag CTF, Slayer, and King of the Hill In symmetrical games, teleporters are available to instantly jump from ship to ship. On the pirate ship, they are located on the rear upper deck and in the front lower deck. On the UNSC ship, they are located in the forward cargo area and the in the ship's bridge. In One Flag CTF, a falcon and a banshee will spawn in the Sparrow's hangar while the flag will be standing in the middle of the Mermaid's lower deck. The capture plate is located in the Sparrow's bridge. In Neutral Bomb Assault, the bomb is located on top of the upper barrel of the Sparrow and the capture plates for both teams will be located on each side of the rear "roof" area, inside the bunker-like structures. In King of the Hill, the Hill is outside on top of the ship's bridge I'll get around to checking the other gametypes. The above 4 were just obvious picks. Other Notes: The original plan was to recreate the Black Pearl from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and have it "float" side-by-side with another pirate ship. I found a blueprint for the ship along with pictures of models which I used as a reference to build the ship. Unfortunately, I went over half of the budget so I could not build another pirate ship of equal size. I opted to go with plan B, which was to build a miniature Frigate in the distance. It took about 3 to 4 days to build the original designs, but the refinement and polishing took significantly longer than that, requiring small, but crucial remodeling and additions. The name of the UNSC ship came from the character "Jack Sparrow," the protagonist of the movie series mentioned above. The name of the pirate ship came from an online pirate ship name generator. I still may change the name of the map in the final version. I didn't want to just call it UNSC Sparrow because I may recreate it in the future in a different setting for a different map, hopefully utilizing the ODST drop areas for drop pods. Currently I'm revamping the whole spawning system and I still have to investigate the kill and death areas as well as recheck everything for balance. It may not be the ideal map for competitive play, but I want it to be as accommodating as it can be. What do you guys think so far? Also, do custom weapon loadouts save with the map and gametype it is edited for? Two screenshots of each ship are available on my fileshare.
