http://www.ugcevents.com/events/halo-2-10k-anniversary#tab-5 The #UGC20K FFA Map is UGC Battleground. This map has been specially Forged by SaLoT for the event, and it has been approved for FFA at the event by 343. You can download the FFA map by adding "UGC Events" to your Xbox One friends list. You should see this gamertag appear on your roster within Halo MCC soon after. Just press A on the gamertag, and head over to file share to download the map. The settings are 15 minute rounds with no kill limit. Walkthrough of the map - http://xboxclips.com/Big+Papa+SaLoT/97ade465-bc11-4f17-a3f0-b19a2a00f28a
So it seems that the UGC guy was clamming for a 2 base map. Note to halo, stop letting clueless people with power decide maps.
This new variant of a circle arena that is also Midship inspired created by Salot is not the worst thing in the world. This design as fundamentally simple as it is truthfully is a successful competitive recipe. I like his piece usage of the large walkway covers to try to maintain a cohesive theme and spawning is a little safer on this new map as it has a bit more line of sight blockers over previous variants, although the overall of the maps aesthetics feel a bit lacking. My only major gripe about gameplay on that map is how low the roof is in the grav. lift areas.
-Like the new lifts in base, though the roof could be fixed -Glad bottom mid is not just one flat level anymore but it still needs more diverse geometry -Top mid is outrageously lazy design -Not enough diversity between towers -Overshield is too weak to be used as a movement incentive -Something good bottom mid to make players move there please. Map is waaaaaaaay too big, at least 40% smaller. The BR is not strong enough to shoot tower to tower, so you are gimping the individual. It kills the towers as power positions since they are too far away from the base to shoot, again forcing linear aggression playstyles from players since they are forced to hold hands to get the flag. And lastly, its the same old that we are used to, nothing different, no demand for the map, no community, CC or forge consultation. Yes this is only FFA for now, but once support gets rallied behind it and spawns get ironed out, I'd expect this to be the staple forge map for HCS season one.
I re-watched the video again and I do agree with every point you made above Doju, it could use some more work. Should we have a mini contest to see who can make the most unique 2 base arena? lol I always thought it would be neat to have contests that were theme based, for example everyone forge a letter shaped map or a 2 vs 2 map with three floors minimum including teleporters and grav. lifts (quake style) something fun to mix it up.
If these guys honestly want a 2-base, 2-tower map, why the **** can't they just find a remake of midship and not have to deal with these clones? As if the gameplay is any bit reminiscent at all. The map is enormous, top mid is only good for gaining new lines of sight, the side towers are extremely secluded with no valuable lines of sight from there (unless you jump up on the couple of blocks at green) It doesn't bother me at all that a 2-base is used as an FFA map. I've enjoyed midship/heretic FFA's in my time. However, it bothers me that they are using this joke of a 2-base that gives up key traits that 2-base, 2-tower maps stand for. What a waste.
I think when Salot named this, he spelled Simplex wrong... While Midship did seem to work fine for FFA, I still don't think 2-base 2-side tower maps are the best mapstyle for an FFA. That gametype should be played on an asymm room style map (Chillout for example)
Old bump, looks like the Pit remake is getting some love for the HCS https://twitter.com/UGCevents/status/549056665241538561
We need to get a catalog going of all the actual playable forge maps out right now and pitch them to UGC et al.
salot knows the owner of UGC personally so it wouldn't surprise me if he only gets exposed to salots maps.
That is very correct. Also, SaLoT's name has been at the forefront of Forge since H3 when he made Onslaught, which as you may know, the competition community has a raging hard on for.
Oh I know it all too well as I competed back then. Hated all the forge maps they added to the circuit.
Well, during the Halo 3 days, I actually loved those maps (Ons, Amp, Lockdown). But looking back at it now, they were completely redundant when Midship was remade, as heretic could play virtually every arena gametype those 3 featured. Since forge maps were to stay, my real disappointment stems from the fact that other community maps weren't considered (Xyience/Reflux, Regicide, or Cynosure, for example). But I mean, the majority of players were happy I guess.
