Turbulent wasn't designed to be extremely creative or original. I wanted to make a balanced map with an interesting layout. A traditional arena-atyle map. From play-testing this for the past 3 weeks, one thing is very clear: This map is FUN!

In fact, I have had more fun on this map than I ever expected. Every single
match I have played on it, weather it was 4 vs 4 CTF or a 6-man FFA, something exciting and awesome has happened. I encourage you to log in to Reach and watch a 10 minute video I posted on my File Share of a recent match. The vid is called CTF on Turbulent.

Below is an overview of the map, which shows the locations of everything significant. Thanks to my buddy Toastman for adding the icons and Turbulent graphic (check out his sweet Embassy map if you haven't already)...

I built this in the lagoon, as you can see, and added some rocks to make the surface of the water seem less bare, and it adds a nice asthetic to the area. I put most of the rocks in the cave behind Red base. View from the cave below (sorry for the blurry images. You can see all the screens in high-res on my File Share)...

The tower you see looming in the backround on the right is the highlight of the map. There are two-way teleporters on each side of the map that lead up to tower, which is, as you can imagine, a great place to snipe or call out enemy positions for your team.

You'll have to be alert, though. You never know when someone might come through a tp and try to assassinate you! Like this fella below, who was being a thorn in the side of blue team before finding himself in a pickle...

There is one vehicle in the map, which is a Falcon. It is located behind the tower and can be reached via a walkway at the base of the tower or by jumping onto it from the tower, which hurts less than it should!

The Falcon can be quite an asset, but there is plenty of cover, as well as a mounted turret at each base, a pair of disabling grenade launchers, and a rocket launcher, which is on the big rock in the middle of the map...

CTF is what will define this map. And teamwork is especially important if you want the flag-carrier to make it home. So having an escort as well as someone in the tower watching your back is essential. The most anyone has ever scored in a 10 or 15 minute match is a single point.

The map has been fully play-tested and the final version is available. Again, this map may not look that impressive at first glance, but I challenge you to find a map that is more balanced and fun to play! If you want to see something more creative, then stay-tuned for a map called Shore Leave, which will arrive here once it has been tested further.

    Thanks!

the pictures are very blurry and i can not really tell what the detail looks like and I have a theory that running across any of those bridges will result in a slaughterfest.

You are right, they are very blurry because I could only figure out how to copy the pics from photobucket. Didn't realize that you could grab 'em straight from Bungie.

About the crosswalks (bridges)... There is cover from the bases on each one, as well as a health pack in case you need it. Only way to get to the rockets without a jetpack, so I think it's acceptable that there isn't more cover.

I had my own reservations about the map but the game flow is deceivingly well-paced. Most of the weapons on the map are short range so there are many situations where you can see enemies but you just can't shoot them. (The sniper rifles only have 4 shots) It forces you to move into medium range battles.

One of the funnest moments I have in this map is the attempt to cut off the flag runner on his way back to base. THat is when having someone on the tower is helpful even without a power weapon.

During testing all of the concerns I had about the map never became an issue. No one has ever complained about the range of the map, because long range weapons and ammo is limited. Actually some people wanted me to un-gimp the sniper and add more DMR's, but they can go to hell! No kidding but seriously it's not a "slaughterfest" unless you stand out in the open like a silly goose.
