Hey guys, I am trying to come up with a decent solution for a tower problem I'm having.I am trying to place four towers inside of a wall, I don't want anyone to be able to get onto the wall from the towers, so they are going to be mostly closed off except on one open side, my problem is how to get someone into the towers. I don't want to use a grav lift or man cannon, because the would defeat my first goal of keeping people off the walls, and I don't want to use teleporters, because I don't want them in this game type. Does anyone have any creative ideas that are relatively small or inconspicuous that is not stairs? I am working on a stair design, and may have the solution, but I am not in the forge, I'm at work, so any solutions would help.
You could do a box to box jumping design. Like the one used in the mario map I believe. Or if you want you could use a ramp that is at an angle so that you can climb to the top.
Nice, the box to box may work, good idea. I almost have this idea down on the stairs, but I don't think the map I'm working on has the resources for stairs, I may have to do the mario thing.
If that dosen't work out for you I guess I could give away my idea. In a map I'm working on right now I've interlocked stairs in order to make a spiral staircase. This could easily be done for a tower unless your trying to save the stairs for other areas.
I was thinking of how to do that, but I don't think I'll have enough stairs, I have to use two sets of them in another area, so I will probably just have to hope that I have enough bridges left over to make an upside down v ramp on one side, and stairs on the other. I hope I have the parts, thanks for the tip though, I may use that idea for another map, I'd like to check out yours possibly, and see how you did it, so maybe when you finish it I could help test it or something.
you could try just putting the grav lift in a spot that wouldn't get them to the wall, only up to the tower
My friend and I made the perfect tower on Standoff last week. I basically stacked as many open doubles vertically on each other as possible, then deleted the bottom one which left four floating in the air. After that, we made a ramp that led up to the bottom of the lowest box so the player could access it. Then, we put a man cannon facing straight up on the lip inside the bottom box that shoots the player upwards, we used one more to propel the player to the top and we put a grav lift on the top part that pushes the player over onto a box on top so he doesn't fall off. To our surprise, it works very well. I'll take some pics of the mechanism in the future.
Teach the players how to levitate. Stairs work very well. If it doesn't take time doing it probably isn't worth taking the the time to do it at all.
That actually sounds like a really good mechanism... if you don't mind beast... I may use this in a map idea in the future...
