There are some things I particularly do not like in infection games and have composed a list of useful guidlines to make an infection game. and if you dont agree, at least read some of the guides to get a kick out of them 1- THEME some infection maps dont have themes where its just "survive in this weird halo battleground" which can be fun, but very rarely. a theme basically means recreating something realistic such as an urban setting, some kind of building complex, or some other place that seems realistic. The aesthetics in themed maps are easier to please the gamer and make it feel more realistic 2- ZOMBIE ABILITIES if your map features zombies that run 300% speed, use amorlock, and have focus rifles or something, strays from being about zombies and turns more into a human vs juggernaut monster thing war, which isnt true to infection. again, this can be fun, but not usually. try to make zombies stick to sprint or nothing. evade can be useful for a zombie sometimes, but its lame when you fly over an edge at 200 miles an hour and commit suicide. just use unlimited sprint. active cammo can work sometimes, but being killed by a zombie you cant see isnt much fun (predator sucks ballz in my opinion) 3- WEAPONS shotguns work mostly, sure, but if want variety be sure to choose humans arsenal carefully. if the humans weapons work too well, or have too much ammo, the zombies will quit, so a good suggestion is: make zombies weak to make the bad halo weapons seem better, and if you put good guns in the map, make them with very low ammo. this is well-balanced and makes the zombies seem more ominous when your coming at them with a spiker in your hands on its last clip. 4- SPECIAL FX You can make a daytime map, but it puts the advantage on the humans, which can balance out if the zombies seem too powerful. otherwise, the humans will get pWn'd. darkness in a map makes it so that the human has the ability to shoot zombies from afar, but makes it more difficult, making the close-range-only aspect of a zombie a little more fair. if you make a map too dark, no one will be able to see, so you need a dim map with lots of corners for a good balance. if you add light objects to a dark map, it will draw the humans to them making zombies come from the darkness and so the zombies can use the fear factor to their advantage as well, which will be needed cuz remember guys, zombies can only run at you at their fastest speed; thats all they can do. if its not enough, it makes them pissed off. so darkness, corners, and fear can all be used by a zombie for strategy. 5- 1v1? what happens? for good balance, you basically want this: 1 human killing a zombie running at him from far away right before it hits/kills him. so 1 human should be better than 1 zombie (in this scenario), which seems unfair, but lets not forget: other zombies play infection (duh) so you have teammates to charge at the humans right there with you. lets not also forget that the map your playing on should be enclosed somewhat and should not be wide open, which we'll get to in a minute 6- THE MAP like before, the map should have multiple corners as well as a few choke points before some good spots or gun spawns for the zombies to have a good chance to get at the humans. also, if there is a spot where zombies can only come from one opening, you will have a problem and not many other areas will be seen by players cuz they will run to the camping spot immediately! and how fun is it running at a couple crouching humans in a corner and die before you even get a respectable dsitance from them? not very fun. chance are, you will die every single time you approach them. so make weapons very limited and avoid building camping areas unless there are secret zombie entraces so the "camping spot" becomes more of a trap. if i come up with more tips i will post them, and if you have some real tips for infection that are reasonable, i will post them here
