Some good casual fun i say. It's just hard to take it seriously. I'd always rather play a TF than CoD
All the community wanted was more content. More multiplayer maps, more modes, and a campaign. Luckily for us, that's what they did here, but unfortunately that's not all they did. Titans spawn as killstreaks rather than on a timer, which ruins the gameplay and feels more like COD. The TTK has significantly decreased, once again, feeling like COD. The new mode "Bounty Hunt" replaces Attrition as the default mode which is a TERRIBLE idea, as Attrition (aka Team Deathmatch) was a really good way for players to get acclimated to the way the game played, the various systems, Titans, etc. because it wasn't too complicated. It was TDM, it doesn't get easier than that. After watching the in-game tutorials, I still don't get exactly how Bounty Hunt works. It's such an inconvenience for a new player who may have not played the first game to all of a sudden be thrown into this slow, confusing battleground and essentially be **** on because you both don't have good guns AND you don't know how to play the ****ing game! Did I mention slow? Good, because gameplay is ****ing boring. The new "flagship" mode Bounty Hunt is unbearably slow and there's no AI, which, back in the first game, kept gameplay exciting and fast because you almost always had people chasing after you, keeping the pace fast and different from COD. The map for Bounty Hunt is essentially an open field, therefore prohibiting any of the cool wall-running mechanics or fast movement that they made available in the game - punished by in-game death. EVERY TIME. I will give them kudos for an extremely smooth game - it's almost impossible to notice any dips in FPS, and the game visually still looks very good. The Training/Tutorial was fun too - I think I spent about 30 minutes trying to get to the top of the leaderboard, which was really interesting and fun. The campaign better be kick-ass, or I refuse to buy the game.
Yeah this... Realy a bummer, i was expecting alot more from the guys who made CoD what it is today, and my two personal favorites CoD4 & MW2. But if you remember MW2, it was more of the same and i think that game rocked it. --- Double Post Merged, Aug 20, 2016 --- Yeah this... I have it downloaded, but haven't played it yet. From what it looks like, it has more content (... Weapons, and that grapple hook) which is what players want, but it just looks more of the same to me. Which some people may like, but Titanfall 1 didn't have enough to keep me interested, and with this just looking like "more" Titanfall 1, I can't see it lasting more than a month before people stop talking about it. The fact that it's on PS4 though may help this time around.
I loved Titanfall 1 when it first came out, but I could tell it was gonna be the flavor of the month. The same goes here, unless they do something vastly different gameplay-wise. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Also the grappling is SO GOOD
I'm gonna disagree on a few points here, Alex... Although putting Titans on killstreaks instead of timers does change the dynamic a little bit, I don't honestly feel like the core gameplay loop has changed in that regard. Get kills, get a titan, run the titan - lather rinse repeat. And, in an Attrition-like mode, where there is more AI, I think it'll end up meaning more Titans, and make killing the non-pilots more worthwile. Right now, Titans do feel less impactful than before, but I suspect that's more of a side effect of limited electric smoke & the grapple hook. Speaking of which, the Grapple Hook is freaking amazingly fun. The Pilots do seem "heavier" this time around - jumps seem to impart less momentum, which was my favorite part of TF1, so I hope the devs move it back in that direction. Still, getting to know how to use the grapple hook has helped alleviate that somewhat. Bounty Hunt took me a game to figure out, but I think I actually am a fan. It's a strange mix between Firefight and Reach's Headhunter, leaning heavily towards headhunter. Basically, an enemy event (grunts spawn, AI controlled titan, specter drop) happens, and you get "bounty" by killing those enemies... or by killing an enemy pilot and stealing half of his accumulated bounty. Thing is - teams can only score points between waves of AI by "banking" the points - holding X next to one of three neutral locations, opening up the opportunity to steal. It's different, but I enjoy the strategy to it. Also, bro... the reason they don't have Attrition/Deathmatch in the tech test is because it's not worth testing that mode... the already know it's great. (I hope lol)
Here's the proof that Bounty Hunt replaces Attrition - http://www.polygon.com/e3/2016/6/12/11913270/titanfall-2-interview-e3-2016
Attrition was what made the game great, sad they replaced it with Boring-Hunter. It seems ok as of now. The graphics haven't changed, which isn't really a bad thing but should be noted. Gunfights seem a bit slow this time around, and the equipment was a bit lacking. The grapple's physics are a bit wierd and slow, and the knife thing is really op (Just throw it and see E V E R Y O N E). <--- Got chills when using it because of how similar it felt compared to that "one thing". I'm not settling on an opinion yet as it's a pre-alpha, but as of now it's not as... "Fast paced" as TF1.
Evolution of a mode doesn't flat out mean the original mode is gone either. Its all speculation so far.
I made a pretty detailed video about it on my YouTube channel if anyone's intereseted. I agree with a lot that's been said, but overall, I enjoy the game.
Movement is much more skillful, you must focus on keeping up your momentum. Sliding feels amazing in this game. The grappling hook is an amazing invention that works almost flawlessly Improved graphics What really stuck out to me was how amazing the melee system feels in this game. It is incredibly satisfying and realistic compared to the original. I will be purchasing. GG respawn, GG.
I agree with Given on movement being more "skillfull" in that there is more technique required in keeping momentum, but I don't think that's necessarily a good thing. I love the effortless movement that came with TF1, and I'd like less concentration on my running so I can concentrate more on reading the map/shooting.
