THRILLER V3 Download Link: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=19214973 In v3, I've changed OverShield to spawn 2 minutes into the game, merged the side fence boxes slightly into the ground (to remove bump), and removed CTF and added Assault (Ignore the description above, I was lazy)! I've changed it from CTf to assault because the instant flag captures made games go too quickly, and it gives another team a chance to fight back... and opened up neutral assault . Forgers Note*: This map is the best I've made so far, hands down. It includes extensive use of the Interlocking glitch, and gives you a feel that If you could skin this it would be a mix of Epitaph and Isolation, which was what I was going for. Even if you don't like those maps, I'm sure you'll like this. KOTH IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. "Inspired by Epitaph and Isolation. 2-6 Players FFA or 4-10 Players Team/Objective. Set up for Slayer, Assault, KOTH and Territories" Thriller was first thought late at night while I was unable to sleep. The image popped into my head, and me, not wanting to lose it, ran to a computer and drew it crudely on MS Paint. The next day, I walked over to the computer, thought to myself, "WTF is this?", and promptly went back to sleep. Then I remembered, woke up, and proceeded to produce a layout to this agonizing piece of work. That was a about a month ago, and I just finished. I had originally wanted to have to bases suspended in the air, with stairs climbing down to the bottom level. Due to massive material restraints, I had to restart construction of half the map 4 times. I'm quite happy with the new bases though, as they work well with the maps geometry. Thriller is centered around a slope leading up to a leveled platform. On each side of the slope are elevations that are connected by a bridge suspended above the pre-slope area. On the elevations there are also two doors on each side, a fence wall in the middle, and a hole in which you can drop on unsuspecting players traversing through the walkways.. There are two bases on each side of the map, which can either lead to the pre-slope area (left), or a walkway leading to a lift that takes you to the leveled platform (right). There are also 2 way node teleporters connecting the two walkways located between the lift and the base. Set up for any game variants located under Slayer, CTF, KOTH, or Territories. For CTF or any other game type I've mentioned that gives long respawns, change it to the normal 3sec respawn - this is a semi fast-paced map. WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT Assault Rifle x4 - 1 spare magazine - 45sec respawn Battle Rifle x4 - 1 spare magazine - 45sec respawn Shotgun x1 - No spare shells - 90sec respawn Rocket Launcher x1 - No spare rocket. - 150sec respawn Carbine x4 - 1 spare (magazine?) - 45sec respawn Plasma Rifle x2 - Unchanged - 30sec respawn Magnum x2 - Unchanged - 30sec respawn Needler x2 - 1 spare awesomeness - 60sec respawn Plasma Grenade x8 - 10sec respawn Regenerator x2 - 90sec respawn Bubble Shield x1 - 60sec respawn Overshield x1 - 120sec respawn PICTURES Red team spawn Blue team spawn First Conflict Top of the Hill A view of one of the two Walkways A lift in use Elevation (Drop Hole in use) One sided overview ACTION SHOTS (more to come!) Action Shot 1: Red team defends their land. Action shot 2: I make good use of the suspended bridge to surprise my opponents from above. Alas, I suck at taking pictures, so I'll show you all more tomorrow. All criticism is greatly encouraged - please be sure to DL, Rate, Comment, and refrain from steal. On a last note, here's something to get you all into the mood to play this. I didn't make it, I just took it off of youtube because it's shorter version of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'. Make sure to listen to this while playing Mosh pit for full effect! Thank you for your time, Forgehub.
Re: Thriller Looks really clean and professionally put together, I like it a lot. Going to have to see how it plays though.
Re: Thriller LIGHTS - Thanks, i appreciate it. Nik - Make sure you only play it on one of the 4 game types I've mentioned, it's not set up for any others. Gobbles - The testing was indeed fun, thanks again. FortStPryd3 - Thanks, I tried really hard with this one!
Re: Thriller hehe im in two screens (im the guy wearing the hayabusa helmet) my favorite part of this map was the hill in the middle it was very nicely built
Re: Thriller Looks very nice and neat. Nice work it's got my download. It's a shame really.. this map should make more of an impact than it will. With the 1v1 contest maps and maps like Aeron around, we have a lot of small perfectly crafted maps and they're losing their "wow" factor. Perhaps this is a first of many phases the community will go through. Well done on the shell shocked contest btw :squirrel_wink:
Re: Thriller Awesome map. Will be trying this one out in a game later today. Has a labyrinth feel to it, but not too cramped. Great job!
Re: Thriller Remember me? I can certainly say that this map is original. Doesn't even look like its on foundry. You should be made a guilder. Feel free to quote me on this. If u see me post a map, please comment.
Re: Thriller No picutres of me??? :squirrel_sad: Anyway, i did like this map alot, expecially on oddballs and KoTH. This is a very fun map. You can haz feature Off topic: your fat
Re: Thriller As in... Michael Jackson thriller? *creeped out* The map looks pretty fun from the pictures and it looks like you spent alot of time on the description. Props.
Re: Thriller This looks really nice. My only concern is the way you interlock. When interlocking boxes try to only merge them a little bit, otherwise you get the flashing effect and it doesnt look as nice. Thats my only problem, and it doesnt even effect the gameplay so congratulations on a very tidy map. I will download and give a report on the gameplay. Ok, i had a quick forge-through and here are my findings. - The grav lift technique is very nice, much better than if you used a mancannon. - The rocket on the fence wall is a little to high up, you should never make some where that requires a crouch jump, because it restricts it to people who know how to do it. - Some of the walls look a bit untidy, you showed all of the good points but you hid all of the not so good points, but i suppose anyone would so its ok. The walls look untidy in places that would be difficult to accomplish, but i feel that if you maybe put a little more effort into some small areas it would come off alot better looking. Thats just my opinion.
Re: Thriller V2. Good games had on this map dom. Including the time you raped me in that one Territories game. >.>
Re: Thriller V2. :O Geez, I've got quite the amount of messages to respond to! Thanks, I'm glad you like it! Not the most informational post, but thank you anyway. Thanks for the DL, you should check out v2 - it fixes the spawns. Your right with your second point, too. My maps have been less popular with his around, but it's alright. As long as enough people check this out and see it for the great map it is, I'm cool. Congratulations on 1st place, too. You really deserved it, fantastic map. I'm confused, what part of this map gives you a labyrinth feel - the walkways? Thanks for the comment, though. Yes, I do remember you. Thank you for your comments (especially the guilder one), and I'll be sure to post on any map you post - I can't say it will be all positive, I've got to be honest with my posts. I'll take more, don't worry your pretty lil' head - you just have to join my party first to get some screens. Oddball is gone (good for you, you suck at Oddball, Alby), and v2 is up, which fixes the spawns. Thank you for helping me test this; it shows you thoroughly know the map. I also thank you for i can has feature, I'd like to see this featured (but doesn't everyone with their own maps )! Off topic: Shutup tubby. The map is pretty fun for all game types, it's semi - fast paced. Believe you me, though, I worked a lot more on the actual map than on the description. And yes, like Michael Jackson Thriller. Where is the creepiness in that? The boxes are interlocked so that it fits with the single box near the lifts, so that it fit the map. I didn't even notice the 'flashiness' of the boxes until you mentioned it, and I don't think it looks awful at all. Thank you for complimenting on the tidiness of the map, I tried hard to make it all level. - About the Lifts: thank you, it's my patented grav lifting system . If I had used to IBG, I could add barriers to it so that it works perfectly every time - but I didn't, so occasionally being lifted will be a little 'sketchy'. - About the Rocket spawn: There's no need to crouch jump to the rockets - you might jump slightly early and bump the edge, but that's rare. As long as you don't jump for the very far tip of the door and try to grab rockets, you won't hit the edge. - The wall I'm sure you're talking about is the drop-hole on the left elevation (if you're facing shotgun wall). It's unnoticeable from the inside of the map, and only uneven if you're looking from outside, so I left it how it was. Of course, if that's not the wall you're talking about, then please post what areas you're talking about. It is symmetric, but just as much as Isolation is - you don't notice it when you're playing. Thanks for the comment, though. Thank you, I really tried. When you get your 360 back, I look forward to playing a few rounds on this with you. Thanks for helping test territories, which was that one game i raped you in. Good games indeed. I thank you all for your interest in Thriller, please take the time to DL the new version. It fixes issues with spawns and territory sizes.
Re: Thriller V2. Ok the map is very well thought out. Its only downside is the spawning stystem. Please add a tonne more spawns, and flood all the gametypes with spawn areas. The amount of times i spawn behind an enemy, and then an enemy spawns behind me. That happened alot. Its not so much your fault as it is the halo 3 spawning system
