The Wilderness iSkiill http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqliuul4JPI Description "The Wilderness" is a fun infection gametype, best suited for 8-16 people. The objective of the game, is simply to survive the 10 minute round. You (Humans) are given 1 minute to flee from the destroyed town and gather ammo from 9 different buildings scattered across the sand dunes. After 1 minute has passed, the zombies are released from a chamber in the sky... And no, it's not just a giant campfest where the zombies don't have a chance, the gameplay is quite fair. The Map In the center of the map, on the middle tier of sandbox, is the humans spawn. Each player spawns next to a mongoose for a quick escape. Floating above the humans spawn, is the zombies spawn. From here, you can see most of the map. In the sand dunes, there are 4 small 'camps'. Each can be easily located as they are lit up with a red or blue light. Each 'camp' contains 2 small buildings which contain wepeons. There is also a 'hidden' building. I say hidden because you can barely see it untill you are close to it. You will find it if you just go towards the sunset. I have used Colourblind FX and Juicy FX to create a night-time feel about the map. The Gametype Zombies have 50% health whilst humans have 200% wepeon damage. (So it's like zombies have 25% health if humans did normal damage.) This dosen't sound like much, but when a horde of zombies rush into your building at 300% speed, it can be quite difficult. Zombies have 50% gravity, making it easy to climb onto roofs. They can sniff you out from 150 meters away. Humans can pick up wepeons. There is a detailed view on wepeons further in the post. There are 10 minute rounds, but in all the rounds of testing we did, nobody survived that long. Stay together and communicate! You don't have waypoints. Wepeons All wepeons are set to NEVER respawn. Most wepeons are low on ammo, you'll have to stock up. Magnum Your starting wepeon, pretty useless against the zombies, you'd better swap it for something else. Assault Rifle Again, not very good against zombies, but still alot better than the magnum. Takes too long to kill when zombies are rushing after you. Battle Rifle 2 carefully placed headshots will kill a zombie. Also fairly long range. This makes it quite a good wepeon to use. SMG Very effective. Dual wield. Can take down a horde of a few zombies. Medium range. Nearly the perfect wepeon. Shotgun Another effective wepeon. Kills with one shell. However there is very limited ammo and it is very short range. You'd also have trouble taking out a group with it. Rocket Launcher Only 2 rockets. This makes it useless for the long run. Sniper Rifle Very effective. 1 shot kill. Long range. But again, low on ammo. Flamethrower Good against a group of zombies. You can also prevent zombies from entering the building by setting the entrance alight. Trip Mine Very good at stalling zombies. Try and save these for further on in the round. There are only 3 on the map however, and you may have trouble finding them. Grenade The grenade is a good tool for getting zombies that are lurking outside. Firebomb Good against zombies. Will kill with a direct hit. Like the flamethrower, good at stallng zombies. Pictures I know alot of you will have scrolled down to this point, anyway, here you go. The humans spawn, the zombies will respawn here when they have been killed. The zombies spawn, they are released after 1 minute. An example of one of the 'camps'. Another 'camp'. An overview of some of the map. A view from one red 'camp' to the other. The interior of a building. Trip mines are useful. Teamwork... ...can only last so long. Download The Wilderness Survival
Wow! This looks amazing. A solid 9/10. The only thing that really concerns me is the fact that if you get everyone or alot of people in one tent that it might be too much of a camping game and be unfair for the zombie. Other than that, good job!
You would think that it would just be a mega campfest, but it isn't. The gameplay is quite fair. It is hard to organise your teammates into one house, and even then the zombies still pick you off quickly. Watch in the video how fast the round ends (and that is with a full party). Also the more people you have in one house the less ammo there is. All wepeons are set to NEVER respawn and most have low ammo. (I should have said that in the post, my bad.)
I wasn't too sure about this map until I saw the pictures. Those camps look amazing, some of the most realistic looking buildings I've seen in forge. But I agree camping looks like it would be pretty bad. If you have every human in you came (at the very least 4 humans) camp in one house with pistols and some secondary weapon from the map, the zombies won't last too long. I say pistols because they're headshot capable. If they're good and have back-up weapons, the zombies don't stand a chance. If you have any extra money, you should add some random cover around the map.
I've hit the object limit for the map so I can't add any cover. When you play it though you'll realise that you don't really need cover: Humans caught outside generally get killed quickly. The zombies can also be quite difficult for you to see, as you don't have a radar and also the FX used. The game does involve camping, I know, but the gameplay does still seem balanced to me. As I said before, nobody has ever survived a full round.
There doesn't seem to be alot to this map, just some short tunnels in the middle and some campgrounds along the sides, but the merging looks good, and the gameplay sounds fun. Well done.
