A quick definition of the USA Patriot Act,

The act expands the authority of US law enforcement agencies for the stated purpose of fighting terrorism in the United States and abroad. Among its provisions, the Act increases the ability of law enforcement agencies to search telephone, e-mail communications, medical, financial and other records; eases restrictions on foreign intelligence gathering within the United States; expands the Secrtary of the Treasury's authority to regulate financial transactions, particularly those involving foreign individuals and entities; and enhances the discretion of law enforcement and immigration authorities in detaining and deporting immigrants suspected of terrorism-related acts. The act also expands the definition of terrorism to include domestic terrorism, thus enlarging the number of activities to which the USA Patriot Act’s expanded law enforcement powers can be applied.

Here's what the US goverment can now do,
:allows government agencies to gather "foreign intelligence information" from both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens, Through use of phone/wire tapping, searching a person's email history, seizing a personally owned computer, and/or having a search warrant of a suspected terrorist either a US citizen or immagrant without their notice. Bank accounts may and past credit card numbers/payments may be searched. Can review past books that you've ordered/checked out at in a library. And much more.

All of this is to keep the US safe of terrorist attacks eiher on US soil or off.
Do you think this is a violation of our citizen rights as the American people?
Should the government have to go this far to keep us safe?
An in depth documentary directed by Michael Moore has more insight into the Iraq war/Patriot Act called Fahrenheit 911

    Big Brother in full effect.

9/11 was a scam, and the government used it as an excuse to amp up their tech and spy on us all. Its so twisted that this **** went down, and no one at all seems to even know or care that their personal freedoms entitled to them by the constitution of the united states of america are being violated/raped on a daily basis.

I'm also not surprised that this fell to the bottom of the page with no replies.

I somewhat agree with you Titmar. Yes I do beleive that are rights are being violated, but no, I dont beleive 9/11 was a scam. Ive seen the website Loose Change and their documentary. All of their theories were disproved already.

Edit:Im surprised this is at the bottom actually, I thought people were introduced to thisubject already.

The patriot act is anything but. It ignores the principles of the founding fathers for civilian control. **** the patriot act.

Whats sad is that most people would rather give up their rights to be safe from an attack that may occur every 10 years harming a small amount of people. What happened on 9/11 is terrible, but its no excuse to remove rights from American citizens.

Benjamin Franklin once said: Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

This is happening right here, right now. We can only hope that the corruption in our government will be lessened by a new president. I think the act is a horrible excuse to invade our privacy.

I must agree. They took it much too far. They could have done many things differently, but the one i wouldve preferred is the "no patriot act in general" act.

But, you have to look at it like this: What other alternative is there? Would you rather be bombed, or have some random person, or a computer program, here you have a conversation about your weekend or something else that is random?

Really, it is an invasion of privacy, but even if they hear you talking about how you stole something or you know someone involved in a crime, they would be able to touch you. What are they gonna say in court? They "legally" tapped your phone and checked your mail without a warrant or permit? They will get into more trouble than you.

And the last part is, like the people listening will even remember it. You talk about something personal or w/e, they listen, they are like "nothing national security threatening here," and the person forgets.

But really, i dont think they are doing that to everyone. Itd be a waste of men and resources. They would only tap someones lines or rig their technology if they had a lead or a reason. It could be a small reason, but a reason nonetheless.

It doesnt make it right, but what alternative is there?
