"Apparently we're looking for a bug nobody's ever seen before...Some kind of smart bug." -Lt. John Rico, Starship Troopers Next Wednesday presents: THE HIVE Map Description: This map has over 15 hours of forging. It employs both the main level and the crypt of sandbox. Everything in the crypt was floated/interlocked as best I could. It currently only supports slayer gametypes, but expect a v1.1 with support for CTF and Assault variants soon. The theme of the map is a giant anthill with two bases on either side of it. Two mancannon/teleporters lead out of the hive and back up to the surface. Weapons/Equipment: Sniper X1 Rockets X1 Sword X1 Mauler X1 Brute Shot X2 Needler X2 BR X16 SMG X8 Plasma Rifle X8 Spiker X2 Bubble Shield X2 Assorted grenades (including 4 firebombs) Warthog X2 Mongoose X2 Without further ado, here are some pictures. Surface Overview: Surface View from sniper tower side Surface View from Rocket side View of anthill from above: View 1 of the interior structure View 2 of the interior structure View 3 of the interior structure Example 1 of what the tunnels look like from the inside Example 2 of what the tunnels look like from the inside Close Quarters in the Hive Rocket attack on a warthog Fire in the Hole! Also, if anybody knows a good way to get custom games going on Live, please post a reply to let me know, I want to test this map desperately. DOWNLOAD THE HIVE!
i love the tunnel section in the crypt but do you walk up some of the steeper sections of it or is there mancannons/graftlifts there? also the main level is really wide open if you have any money left you should make some more cover also ill help you test it if you need it just send me a request when im on my gamertag is the same as my fh name
yes, you can walk up the steep sections of the crypt, and yes there is money left over, I may add more cover later
more cover is defiantely needed because i dont think that many people would make it into the tunnel section before being killed on the outside bits. i really like the tunnel bit and is it only one way out? i dont think i will download this version but if you take these comments into consideration i will download v1.1 to test it. oh i forgot my rating: 3.5/5
2 ways out when i get ctf up and running, the flags will be down in the queen chamber, so you'll have to fight your way down to the bottom, same with assault
yup ok then i guess it better if there is 2 ways out. and i like the idea that you are using for assault and CTF. But i still think as a slayer map it may not work with the tunnels. But i may change my decision on that when i test v1.1 with people
hey, it seems there are like 10 people checking out this thread right now, so if anyone wants to get a game going on the hive, friend me, my GT is Next Wednesday.
Whoa this is cool. I love the hive concept and the tunnels in the crypt. Interlocking on the hive looks even, as well as the crypt good job
Guys, hang on before you praise up the tunnels and their originality. This has been done before. look at this map, it was posted a few days ago: Distorted Sand.
you cant just say that. you need to stick up for yourself and tell us WHY yours is better and different, otherwise people will accuse you of copying
Here's why mine's better: 1. It utilizes both the surface and the tunnels. 2. It's built for slayer, ctf, and assault, not just infection. (at least it will be when I get to organizing the ctf and assault variants) 3. You can get out of the tunnels (in a really cool way, may i add) 4. You can't escape from the tunnels into the rest of the crypt. Also, I know I didn't copy off of anyone, so if people accuse me of it, it won't bother me anyways. By the way, prodigious, it isn't productive to make comments like, (loose quote) "before anyone gives this guy a compliment for putting so much time and effort into a map, it's been done before, so there." The spirit of your post was negative, lets try to keep it positive
Hey this looks like a great idea. Can you tell us how to get out of the hole thing? I actually like the idea of "the Hive" thing. I think it's going to be a much better assault map than a slayer map, so we'll see on that part. I do agree with the others about adding more cover though, especially for slayer.
I played this map with you Wednesday, and all I can suggest right now is to limit the gernades to two different types, It might also look nicer if you could fix the interlocked tube peice that juts out into the tube. Also, Instead of just laying out some scenery, a building or two would be nice.
I guess the tunnel idea might not be original, but I give uber-kudos to you for the tunnels. I would say the main floor needs cover, though.
So, the ways back up to the surface involve taking one of two mancannons inside the tunnels, they propel you upwards and through a teleporter that then mancannons you out of one of those two tubes on the hillsides that you can see in the first picture. Both the mancannons shoot you back to the vicinity of the anthill pile. I'll add some more cover to the surface when I make the assault/ctf variants. My plan for CTF involves placing both flags down in what I call the queen chamber, which is the room where the sword spawns. Also, I just remembered that there is a way out of the tunnels and into the rest of the crypt, but it's tough to do. I'll put some kill balls in so the escape doesn't work. I'll also limit the grenades to just plasma and frag, I thought the firebombs would add to the ambiance of extermination, but they're really just fluff.
looks awesome dude, i love how you used more than one part of the map. This is one of the first maps i've seen that on. What exactly do those little squares do? I think they have mancannons in them.
Not that anyone is going to read this, but please don't comment on a map out of the pictures. How much do you think your learning from the pictures about the actual map? It annoys the crap out of me. Start being helpful and post something he hasn't heard already. Also he didn't copy, and if he did, who cares? If it improves the map then it should be part of it. Using someone else's ideas as your own to improve your map is a good idea.
