Ok so I did some googling and some dictionarying of the titles "Mason" and "Guilder" to see what they meant. Here's what I got. Guilder So to sum it up guilder comes from the Dutch word for gold, it is a Netherland currency. Then there is Mason Mason So a Mason is someone who builds with stone and brick. Here's the comparison, a Guilder, who makes playable working maps, is the word for gold, a beautiful ascetic substance. While Mason which deals with looks and ascetics, is the word for a stone worker who layed down foundations. Doesn't this seem odd, I think its funny they got switched around. Bar in mind I only thought this was funny I don;t want them to change the names or anything but I always get a kick out of some good irony. My sources are Here and Here Also the Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary: Copyright 1977
Hmm Yeah, it really doesn't matter. Anyone can see. It doesn't really matter Doesn't really matter to T... But keep in mind the masons were added after guilders, so Guilder maps used to be the gold standard of ALL maps.
It's funny, but not terribly important. I always thought that 'guilder' was a medieval occupation like blacksmith, but apparently not.
Well I think their mix up came about becuase a guild is an organization of people of the same expertise or interest, that support each other and keep prices down. Sort of like a union. So it would make sense to assume that a Guilder was someone in a guild... And for the final time I don't think its important, just funny.
It depends on your definition. A guilder can also be a person in a guild of something. Say, making maps.
And for the final time, it isn't important!!! Lol, I was just messing with you. I know you just thought it was interesting enough to point out and that you weren't trying to start trouble.
As I stated before thats probably how this came about. Because it sounds like it is guilder is used to describe a guild member. However that is not that case, read about for what is. Huh? Damn...Titmar is back (KIDDING before all you people yell at me)
Well I'm not sure about guilder, but the idea behind "Mason" is that they build maps/buildings with style and attention to detail. So ti kinda fits...
Did you read the topic? Guilder means only one thing. So does Mason, although you can stretch Mason a bit so it, as Klink said "kinda fits" Yeah Mason would work alone but I would think it would be more appropriate for guilders, as masons built the core the foundation, they would be the modern day equivalent to contractors or construction workers, not the artists or designers that we think of. You make a valid point....
I didn't say they would...again... Its ironic becuase they are understood to mean the opposites of what they do.
