When talking about map layout I think that every BTB map should loke more like Highland. In a lot of maps vehicles dominate, because they have too much space. It's not hard to driver around and there are few routes for infantry. It's too easy to drive around the base (e.g.. hemorage, spire, boneyard, paradiso) In Highlands you can easily travel between bases without getting killed by vehicles. There are several ways to travel and good vertical battles. It takes skill to drive around, but you can get a lot of kills. Other example of old Halo BTB maps that had these elements: Headlong, Terminal, Rat Race, Relic. I hope that this won't be the last map pack that these guys make. Also, Multiflag on Highlands <3
Every time I play Highlands, the laser and shotguns sit around. The laser is sitting there literally every time I go by.
I don't think anyone knows where the weapons spawn. I always end up getting the sniper and I pretty much get a sharp shooter every game.
Part of that is the quick respawns on most power weapons like Titmar said. I'd personally like to see them toned down just a little so that more DMR battles see the light of day, though overall it still plays incredibly well.
i think it might be the min/max setting?? because like i said above, the shotgun i had JUST picked up was respawned within roughly 15 seconds, while i was still holding it.
I actually like that choice tbh, I don't like how Bungie maps perpetuate the advantage gained by having a power weapon in that it prevents the opponents from getting that same weapon which is an obvious counter. Got both Snipers on Asylum? Good luck to the other team, cause all you have to do is keep hold of empty ones and they won't get a chance to grab a ranged counter to the Sniper you're keeping them pinned with. Even with that, though, the respawns seem quicker than I'd have done, I'd put a 3:00 on both Snipers and Rocks just because of the sheer volume of them. Though tbh I haven't dropped in to forge and checked yet, maybe I'm wrong, but they seem like they're on a 2:00 at most.
okay its no longer a minor gripe for me, way too many power weapons on highlands. Now that a lot of people know where the weapons are, driving is next to impossible. Most matches i played tonight the warthog would get 2-3 kills at most, and I'm a great driver, my bros a great gunner. On foot generally played the same, but still. vehicles were essentially useless, if the net gain for our two deaths is only +1 its not worth the time taken. Driving around is essentially the reason I play big team, I love driving gunners and running the flag guy home. maybe just upping the timers would work. but snipers, laser, rockets, plasma launcher, & grenade launcher is just too much. MAYBE it will get better once EVERYONE knows where they are. Seemed like every game tonight the other team knew all the spawns, and my team was always the ones going "woah, look at the waterfall! and the fish in the stream!"
A few pics of Highlands. Pardon the little glitch on the following pic. The ships were doing the forge flash thing that happens when you have too many items on the map. Might go back and take it again after deleting everything else on the map. fairly disappointed with the map outside the map. The trees, rocks and grass out there look lousy. Even for just standard skybox decorations. Some of them you can see quite closely from inside the map. I can understand them making cutbacks in aesthetics but shouldn't those cut backs benefit us somehow? All those crappy looking trees and stuff and they still couldn't get rid of frame rate lag.
I actually found a bug on condemned while playing a custom juggernaut game (by myself). I when into the anti-gravity room and jumped around for a bit only to get stuck on the roof. Not like I was on the other side no I was actually stuck on the roof of the room. Now it may have had something to do with the juggernaut having low gravity (I could jump pretty high with it) I don't know. Just something to look out for.
I am loving Unearthed. As a firefight maniac, this is exactly what fire fight needed. I do wish there was both a rocket and a standard hog to play around with. Also, has anyone else noticed any change in how the AI is working? It seems like they are far more aggressive and accurate than normal. Perhaps it is because the sight lines are extended and the map is so large that the AI feels the need to rush the bases, but it seems like the game behaves quite differently. I am enjoying my custom fire fight sessions on this map and can't wait to get 4 people together for vehicle domination.
