Template of Time (WIP)

    Hey all, long time forger, low experience forger here. I'm the kind of forger that's had a lot of ideas or things I wished I could do that just somehow didn't come to fruition, often by gametype customization limitations (even back in H3). But when it comes to maps, I often have an idea for something I want to base a map around and then have no idea where to go from there. Level design, level art, and forging capability are things I've never been accomplished in.

    Enter Halo 5 forge, now all of a sudden forging capability doesn't escape me. Level art on the large scale is a lot easier (though I'm still learning). Level design is something I struggle with and probably always will.

    To that end, the last few days I started on and have been working on a map that started from the Temple of Time. It quickly became too large for 2v2, since I needed to keep expanding to keep the temple neutral and generally preserve its state. Then small ideas like "oh I want to include the river" and "I should build a bridge across this part of the river" quickly expanded the map into at a minimum a 6v6, BTB, or Team Snipers map.

    Again, level design is something that doesn't come easily to me. I generally consider myself to be pretty artistic, but as soon as I try to focus on design, the aesthetics go out the window. Finally I can forge, but I still don't know how to make a good map.

    But I would love to take what I've made and turn it into something playable, ideally core, BTB, 1v1 and 2v2. Multiple versions to be certain, using what I've built as a sort of "Template of Time", thus the thread title.

    The reason I bring this here is that I don't think these are tasks I can accomplish on my own. At least not in a way that doesn't make the whole map trash.

    Is anyone interested in pursuing this endeavor with me? I can post screencaps later, but for now, if anyone is interested, you can see the current state of the map here.

    I hope I've piqued enough interest that someone would like to see this map come to fruition as much as I would.

    Points of interest:
    Sacred Grove:
    -Gossip Stone
    -Skulltula Ledge
    -Navi
    -Sacred Stones
    -Hidden Cave

    Temple of Time:
    -Master Sword (chanting and gleaming included)

    River:
    -Waterfall
    -Pallet Bridge
    -Zora Domain Entrance and ice floes

    Sheikah Paths (marked by the Sheikah Eye):
    -Waterfall Climb
    -Temple of Time upper entrance
    -Zora Sapphire path to Kokiri Emerald
    -Bridge Arch
    -(The Temple of Time upper pathway and Bridge arch are intended to be playable sniper locations a la Last Resort sniper pillar)

    Other "Hyrule" Weapons:
    -Megaton Hammer
    -Link's Crossbow (with sticky bomb arrows)
    -Fairy Bow
    -Bomb arrow launcher
    -Silent Needles
    -Stealth bow
    -Sheikah Camo

    "Hyrule" Creatures:
    -Gohma
    -Epona (2) (with bomb arrows)

    Spawns:
    -"Red" by the upper bridge
    -"Blue" by Zora's Domain

    I'm in the same boat as you. I use to make maps that look cool but often played horrible. I finally feel that my maps layouts are good. My Gamertag is Mr Deliciousman. Invite me and I'll help out however I can. When I get the chance I will check out ur map and give u feedback.

    All right, I'm about to head home and I might work on it a bit but I really just don't know what to do at this point. I know I need to add pathing and cover but in trying to make it aesthetic it loses a lot of its identity (for example, I almost added Lon Lon Ranch as cover. But that deserves a whole map)

    I would definitely appreciate the extra brain! I think tonight I may try starting over with a 1v1 temple, but I do want to get this one perfect as well so yes let's work on it! That said if it ends up being a pretty base map on which to build competitive maps with a zelda theme, I'd be okay with that :)

    I like the updates so far. I have a few more suggestions too. Can you make a column set just like this part of your map?

    I think I want to change the high part of the bridge to be more gerudo-esque, exactly from that image. I think i could do adobe buildings on rock instead of forest there and that would maintain a general hyrule map continuum (i included death mountain but it's sort of overshadowed by the actual mountains). I like those colums headed into the lake maybe, and some along the river - maybe smaller ice floes around the mantis and some larger structure instead?

    Bigger structure would look better. Also try to figure out how to imitate the death mountain smoke circle if you can. Experiment with the smoke or steam effects maybe?

    I don't know if it'll work. I tried even lighting the top red but the effect doesn't load within distance of the map lmao

    Would be interesting as a central cover and focus point. Certainly better than lon lon ranch as cover lmao
