oh boy here come the people that competed in the coliseum wall contest and lucky me i was starting to test doing this sort of thing yesterday time to put my skills to the test GAME ON!
Hope everybody's creations are coming along! Submission thread opens Wednesday. No rush though, you'll have four weeks after that until it closes.
You can all quit - the guy who made a map with no coliseum walls or brace larges wins. Degree of difficulty score = 20,000.
It will be judged as a 4v4 whether it supports 4v4 or not. It could severely impact your overall rating.
Welcome to the internet. Here's a brochure we like to hand out to newcomers - it's called "How Memes Work."
Is it possible to get at least a list of items that will up your score in the difficulty range? Also, this is just my opinion, I would think you should also get more points in the difficulty range for less money used. I'm intrigued though, I'll see if I can get a map going.
lxlIcyBulletlxl - I had planned on leaving that somewhat at the judges' individual discretion. But basically anything small or complicated is a more difficult piece. A brace tunnel is much harder to use than a brace large; a 1x1 flat block is harder to use than any 4x4. Also, budget will be taken at least a little bit into consideration - if you build a capable and good-looking 4v4 map for $5000, you deserve a slight difficulty boost. I don't want to turn it into a math formula, but all the judges are experienced forgers and know how difficult it is to use certain objects (or build a map without using other certain objects at all). And we're going to be discussing these things as we play them and during judging, so I imagine we'll all be on the same page for most of the entries.
Alright, sounds good. Judge's discretion adds to the excitement of judging in my opinion, and that's something I certainly wouldn't want to just take away by any stretch. Too much subjectivity though will kill a competition because it makes anyone who thinks their map was better pretty sure that the judge misjudged. People on this forum are pretty good about that kind of stuff though, so I'm sure it won't happen, I was just more curious as to which pieces might be better for it. Conventional wisdom should obviously do the trick, so thank you.
I decided to go with 6 pieces cuz I don't feel like using the rocks. Building Block = 4x4 Tall Building = Round Bunker Bridges = XL Bridge Decorative = Strut Walls/Doors/Windows = Long Tunnel Incline = Large Bridge Ramp (or whatever it's called) I'm pretty much done, should be fun finishing it up and seeing the end product of this challenge, even if I get my manhood handed to me on a silver platter by the beasts on this site xD EDIT - Changed a couple items...
So much for this contest. My near-finished map (need kill barriers) got overwritten by another project that I deleted just yesterday, so it's likely I won't want to remake it.
That sucks. Reach's buggy file system cost me a few hours worth of map revisions the other day (luckily I had a backup of the original map but not the revised version), so I feel your pain. Well, you still have a month to make something else if you feel inspired...
