I'm fairly new to forge, and have a great idea for a simple map but have one problem - nothing is lining up. I have some maps downloaded from here, and see perfectly angled walls and edge-to edge floors. Is there some simple way to get this, or do you just have to try and try until you line it up right?

im not shure what you mean:
maybe 1 pic of what your having troble with?

if your just lineing up walls: yes you gota try untill you have them lvl with the other block or wall.
the more your forge the easyer it will get

Well first off welcome to Forgehub.
If you are talking about two objects being inside each other then that is interlocking then you need to go to Forging 101.
If they are inside map geometry then you need to look for Tylyr1's Ghost Merging tut.
You say about perfectly flat walls? Well then you could use guides ie place double block on the ground and place the wall against it.
    Hope I helped
