    Sub-Station B

    Deep inside the mountains of South America, several tribes found a huge cave inside one of the mountains. They started to colonize it as it was safe from their enemies. Technology advanced and the tribes were exterminated to make room for the new American base to be built. As time passed the inhabitants grew uneasy and a mini civil war broke out among the base. This section is referred to as Sub-Station B, and you will experience their story.

    Sub Station B is a BTB map built upon the canvas of Rat’s Nest. This first started with two ideas: 1.) I really wanted to do something with the middle of the map. It seemed very good to actually forge upon and make platforms and all that so I got started with that and 2.) I have never seen a Rat’s Nest map incorporate the Scorpion into a competitive game well and I wanted to change that. Those two things really led me off into different paths with the map and I had to make sure that everything was balanced. In Sub Station, both teams start where they normally would in Rat’s Nest. But both bases have a completely different arsenal then the regular Rats Nest.

    Section: BasesAs the section suggests, this is where teams will spawn in every game. There are lots of weapons to use. The most powerful would be the tank. Use it wisely, since it only spawns every 3 minutes. Some of the other vehicles are 2 mongooses and 1 Warthog. Unless your against a tank, the Warthog is exceptionally good. It can travel around most of the map and you can even get it up the platforms in the middle. For footmen, there is some BRs and a brute shot in the flag room. When you spawn, if you go down the path to the outside, you will see a teleporter. Near it are some plasmas and the teleporter which takes you to the middle. You have lots of options here, so use that to your advantage.

    Weapons: {for one side}
    -BR X 2
    -SMG X2
    -Brute Shot X1
    -Plasma Pistol X1
    -Frags X2
    -Plasmas X2
    -Trip Mine X1
    -Mongoose X2

    Section: Mid-CenterThis section is between the bases and the center. It is home to several weapons and is where two of the hills in KOTH are. It includes the room past the base, part of the tunnels, and part of the outside highway area. This is definitely the biggest area and is where you spawn most of the time. This area also changes during the game. There are several crates and barriers that, when a vehicle runs into them, they can go anywhere. Sometimes it can help you, but other times it can hurt you, so just be careful out there.

    Weapons: {for one side}
    -AR X1
    -BR X2
    -Rockets X1
    -Turret X1
    -SMG X2
    -Plasmas X3
    -Bubble Shield X1

    Section: CenterBeing the center of the map, most of the battles occur here. This is also the part of the map that I have added to the most. There are several bridges, grav lifts, and extra platforms making for 3 distinct levels of combat. This verticality can be your best friend against tanks and can give you the edge you need to win. In it are several weapons along with some equipment. Make sure you use the section’s power drain to your advantage as it can make or break you most of the time. In KOTH, two hills reside here and in neutral bomb, the bomb is also here of course.

    Weapons:
    -BR X1
    -Laser X1
    -Grav Hammer X1
    -Missile Pod X1
    -Power Drain X1
    -Regenerator X1
    -Chopper X1

    Final Notes
    When I was planning this map I didn’t want anything to extravagant or amazing aesthetics. Since this is on Rat’s Nest you first don’t have much to work with, but then again Rat’s Nest looks pretty good to begin with. I didn’t spend much time with aesthetics. Not to say the map looks bad, but I spent more time on gameplay. So the bottom line: if you are looking for the next amazing looking map, look again, but if you want pure fun and solid BTB gameplay then go ahead and download and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

    Honestly, I would love to see this map in Matchmaking. I like the fact that you actually used the Scorpion on a competitive Rat's Nest map and balanced it out with the Rockets, Missle Pod, and the equipment. The center stand out the most to me (as I'm sure it should) mainly because of the Chopper placed there which can be used to take out everything other than the Scorpion in a single splatter. This is certainly well executed for its gameplay.

    This definitely seems like "Rat's Nest Heavy." You kept most of the normal Rat's Nest, while balancing it out for use with the heavy weapons. Its fun, and there's a lot more vehicular mayhem than normal Rat's Nest. Very fun map.

    Sheesh Bartoge, you make maps fast...

    I wish I could have helped with this one, sorry I've been so busy! I really like what you've done with the middle. It makes the map even bigger than it originally is. And it was a good idea to put those teleporters and lifts to make up for the extra playing level. The scorpion was also a great idea. You didn't mention this in your description, but where are the objective markers (neutral bomb point and such). Did you move them to your artificial middle structure? That would change gameplay significantly, but also keep the same feel of an objectibe Rat's Nest game. I think this has a great shot at winning the BTB challenge! Well done!
