Bummer. I'm sure no one is happy about the outcome here. Hopefully the whyher will take some time to cool off and start posting again in a week. Everyone gets heated up about something occasionally. I'm sure some time away is just what the doctor ordered. Now, what's this topic about anyway? Halo remakes? I loved playing Halo and Halo2 multiplayer. However, I have not been satisfied with any of the remakes, except Bungie's own remake of Blood Gulch. To me, they just can't capture the fun of the previous game. I say take your talent and creativity and make something original for the community (I'm talking to Forgers and Bungie here).
Wow... I didnt read any of that. But I did think the guy's Midship remake looked pretty good. I actually just came in here to post a general comment/suggestion to people who like to remake maps: If you are going to take so much time to make a map that is aesthetically accurate to the original map, including weapon spawns, and everything... PLEASE take the extra 30 minutes or so to make all the walls and objects line up properly and look nice. Im not attacking anyone, Im just saying that I DL'd a couple of these so-called best maps, and they were incredibly similar to the originals, but all the walls and objects were sloppily placed and looked like crap.
Yah, i was going to try to PM him and get him to stop the argument, but he just had to keep on the offensive... Moving on... I don't disagree with you entirely. It's nearly impossible to recreate something and have it be as fun as it was before. Just like when someone remakes a movie, or tv show, or song... It never seems as good as you remember it being the first time you experienced it. I can't think of any of Bungie's remakes that i had as much fun playing as when it was on the original game. For me, map recreation is more of a challenge. Almost like solving a puzzle. How can i get this random group of objects to resemble this other thing? And how close can i make it with limited space and budget? It takes a different set of problem solving skills than making an original map. In some ways its harder, if you are anal-retentive about every detail. And i like that challenge. Plus, there is a set of people that want these remakes. So at least through competition/comparison we can get the best version possible to that segment of the community. In the end, though, i do hope anyone who is talented enough turns their talents to originals so we can see something new and amazing. I also hope Bungie finds a way to give us more objects, larger canvases, bigger budgets, and more tools to make it easier for us to do great things.
I can't even read any of these posts. They're giant walls and when I try to read them, THEY HIT ME! AND IT HURTS!
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but the link to the gemini remake takes me to the file share page in which there is no gemini. could anyone give me a link please?
He dropped it from his filed share. I don't want to speak for him, but i know he has removed maps that have areas where you can should be able to your death (Lockout and Ascension for example). Gemini's death-fall area isn't as integral to that map as the others, but it should be there. I did find a couple of remakes by searching the Bungie.net forums. The best one (IMHO) is here: Gemini - i think this has the best overall layout, but there is no "cliff" on the outer walkway. These two are also pretty good.: Gemini - Great interior layout, but the back walkway is atrocious. and Gemini Revised - Interior a bit too cramped, but he did include a cliff on the back walkway to fall off of. He placed some fusion cores to kill yourself with if you fall ( i guess). But i found you could easily use those to actually get back up to the walkway. I had already decided to remake this myself, since i also noticed there was no working link at the time. I will take what i liked from these maps, and try to fix the problems with them. This will probably be the next and last remake i attempt. Most of the original Halo 1 and 2 maps that are worth playing (and feasible to remake in Foundry) already have good versions. Plus, i think i can i have a solution for Gemini since it has such a small death area. If i can make it work i will make it and post it. Otherwise try the ones i linked to and se which one you like best. Voodoo, you might want to check those links out too, so you can update the main post if any are good enough.
Hey Voodoo. I made a few slight changes to Backwash and re-published it. Please change the link on the main post to point to this one: Backwash I also made a few small changes to my version of Longest. I know you said you didn't play the original, so i ask anyone else who has to compare mine to the one on this thread to see if it is any better. I think mine is more similar to the original, but i did change up some weapon placement per SoaringEagle05's suggestions to make it play better in Halo 3. If it is better and should replace the other, let Voodoo know. If not, thats cool too.
its not empty but my gamer tag is no longer linked (i have no idea how this happened but when i go to sign in on xbox.com it says im signed but im not im trying to fix it but i don't know how read a post at bungie and apparently some people's gamertags were un linked and they are being re linked so i gotta wait a while
I changed the Backwash link. And for the Gemini, the one in the fileshare was MR X 93's, but I edited it so it didnt suck that badly. I will check out the other ones though and get back. Does anone have a preference for which one is better?
I apologize, I don't know why that guy struck a nerve. I guess it was the way he boasted of his map and treated respected members (voodoo), either way it was uncalled for by me to take a personal shot. I didn't even see his post but probably was for the best if I didn't. I am chilled now and looking back on my post, wonder why I got so worked up about a Halo map. Again I apologize, you might want to delete that post since it is just spam.
I preferred Mr X's as well, and was thinking of taking his map and and fixing some of the problems on it rather than starting from scratch. Obviously i would give him credit, but i should probably PM him before doing so.
I began to add the honorable mentions, that way the community still gets to vote. if you guys really think a map belongs there tell me. I didnt change Gemini because I'm waiting to see if soaring eagle puts it back in his fileshare. which he should. And even if one gets taken down I have all of them saved on my xbox, so send me a FR and I will get them to you. Some I even fixed so all of the gametypes work.
i changed the longest in my file share to ufochaser's one but the one in my file share is the exact copy of the map, no editing needed also i remember u showed me a Gemini but it never showed up in my recent played maps and i never had it in my file share
I was bored, so I decided to see what I could do with the "Gemini Revised" map. It's bigger, and the geometry is great, I'm pretty sure that you can't get out without freaky gravity settings. I haven't finished gametypes yet but once I do I'll post it here.
Guys, you Have to check this one out! It's a remake of Chill Out, and Oh Boy what a remake. He used the forge glitch and a buttload of time to make this. An epic remake to say the least. Take a look at Chill Out v2 here!
