Big fan of sports noticed we don't have a thread to talk about it. I am a fan of the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings, Lions, and Pistons, Michigan Basketball and Football. I keep up pretty consistently with all of them. Ughhhh...... Yeah talk about games and stuff.
High School Football is a really big deal in Michigan as well. My school never goes anywhere but there have been years where my county has had 6 state champs. There is only one school that made it this year. They are looking for a 3peat. They also were the team that beat my school in the playoffs the only two years they had a shot at it.
Yeah, my team has a pretty big history. They even made a movie about it. "Friday Night Lights" Odessa Permian High School. We have had quit a few State titles but it has been awhile. We are in what they call "The Little Southwest Conference" and its hard for us in west texas to take over the big schools in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Allen high school has like 5900 or 6900 enrollment versus our 4,000-5,000.
I went to high school with Cole Beasley of the Dallas Cowboys. He didn't know me though cause I was a sophomore when he graduated, lol.
My high school football team was pretty bad when I was in school, but they hired Bud Grants son as head coach a few years after I left. They've won about half of the state titles since, including 4 out of the last 5 years. I don't really follow high school football much though. I just knew they had been pretty good, and looked up those numbers online.
I didn't like it when I was in school lol. I was a stoner/skater & I didn't get along with a lot of the jocks but I have been into it for a few years now.
Highschool: wrestling, rugby, baseball, soccer, skiing College: art, music, video games and a lot of movies I'm not a fan of watching sports at all but I love watching Halo events, always have.
Maybe esports should be a separate thread :S Since this is a mostly American forum, thoughts on the NFL in the UK? http://www.cityam.com/227892/twicke...-rugby-home-to-stage-three-nfl-games-a-season http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...tenham-hotspur-ink-10year-stadium-partnership We'l have 8 games a season by 2018 in London, very obviously shaping up for a franchise over here.
I really don't know how that will go over. Do you guys really enjoy football that much? There was a europe league at one time and it failed. I follow sport quite a bit and nfl coverage has got to the point of nausea. Didn't say what sports I played in school. Baseball Football Basketball Wrestling Skateboarding(was not a school thing but before I became incredibly fat from working at a fried chicken place and falling off a ten foot deck smashing my face into a wooden post and then the cement. I skateboarded all the time. That also ended my playing of football as well.
I expect to see an NFL team in London at some point. I don't expect it to work very well though. The time difference and travel distance is going to put the team at a severe disadvantage for road games, and give them a major advantage in home games. I expect they'd also have a difficult time attracting free agents. I only played on the official High School team for Tennis (because the time commitment was less than other sports). I was mostly invested in the band at that point, and most of my extracurricular time went towards mastering my instrument. I played on community teams for various sports. Much of my youth was spent playing Baseball and Basketball. Also was pretty heavily into (American) Football, Tennis, and Golf.
The only sport I follow is American football. My favorite team is the Patriots. It would be a dream come true if the patriots won the super bowl again. History tells us that it is extremely hard to win twice in a row, but guess what team did it last? Thats right, the good ol' red white and blue.
That was much different, was just a load of your reject and young players randomly placed around Europe, with the whole team changing every year. This would be a full franchise. The games have always sold out, even with three games a season at the moment with some crappy games. The main problems are -Fans already support teams -Fans want rally behind a team just because its London. Everyone in this country hates London, nevermind the mainland Europeans. -NFL would have to change the presentation of the games tailored more to our culture, not sure if they know how to do that. -Logistics with constant cross atlantic flights. They would probably play 2 road games in consecutive weeks. For the NFL is if they can sustain themselves financially, and prove to be more lucrative than existing teams in the US. Its heavily rumoured we would be taking the Jacksonville slot.
Unless they go to L.A. because there is a knew stadium going in and supposedly one of the NFL teams are going there. Didn't realize the NFL was that popular over there. I assumed it was the NFL doing what they do best and forcing **** down peoples throats.
