Speed 4-16 players UPDATED: NEW GAMETYPE (5/11/11) NASCAR Pro is the new gametype for this map. It adds alpha zombie traits in which he is the only one with plasma granades. Also a few other minor changes have been made. Speed is a spin-off from Writers Mind. Writers Mind has been quite popular in the custom game community. Then one day I decided to look at its mechanics and found that there could be many improvements in the game and map. Speed. This main ludicrous game element is what differentiates this map from any other. The longest covered ramp in Halo Reach is what made this possible. The game itself is quite simple. The first zombie spawns inside a small area where a custom powerup activates. This alpha zombie cannot move, jump or kill anything for 30 seconds. Once the 30 seconds are up, a man cannon appears and the zombie can then create chaos. They are also the only ones that can use plasma granades. The rest start as humans and must grab a warthog and race downwards to spatter zombies to gain points. Zombies start out with gravity hammers and swords to infect the humans. When a warthog reaches the bottom, it is instantly teleported back at the top without any loss of momentum. As you begin to gain more speed after each lap, the harder it is to get infected, and the more deadly you become. Heres some videos of what to expect: YouTube - Halo Reach Forge Maps (THFE) - "Speed" (Ep. 8) See how fast you can go: Halo Reach - The Meaning Of Speed‏ - YouTube Here are some screenshots: You will never run out of warthogs... lol (its not a mod!) The map is pretty and clean and the gametype looks fun. DL'd; I'm excited to try this one. The one part that could possibly be improved is the end of the ramp, as the kill ball / water combination is kind of ugly and might be confusing to first time players. Could you get the same function with a wall and a kill barrier? It would be nice to see decals at the end of the ramp like you have on the walls, and an enclosed end would be more reassuring to noobs who might otherwise try to slow their descent instead of going fast.
I actually considered doing this. But when I added the wall some people died very early by crashing into the wall (even behind the teleporters). This is because two people cannot use the same teleporter at once. So if you play a game with 8+ people, sometimes the second person would fall past the kill balls and the teleporters landing in the water for a second, waiting for their turn to be teleported (however this still does not effect momentum). The kill balls are there just in case a warthog falls through without a driver and still explodes. That way it can be spawned at the top.
Looks like a very fun map/game to play on and I will definately try and play it with my friends I have one question... How did you get more than the maximum number of warthogs to spawn at the top of the map, as i thought the maximum number was 8???
Ive looked at the map and I have to say you put an effort to make a very fun map. Although I have played this and Writers Mind I have to say they are both similar. I am curious if you asked the original creator for permission to "Remake" the type of map. I know it is not a true copy I am just wondering. And my honest opinion this is better because of their Gravity Hammers and the Aesthetics on the walls and ceiling. Good job!
1.) Is there a soft kill zone at the top by the vehicles? 2.) You mentioned teleporter issues in your last post. Have you considered placing multiple sender and receiver nodes... all on the same channel? That way if one receiver node is in use, they will be teleported to the next available receiver node.
Yes there is a soft kill zone at the top. And no they aren't issues, I said they don't make you lose momentum. Thats good, it means you aren't slowed down. And my teleporters are set up so when you are on the left, you appear on the left at the top. 6 and 6 teleporters, 6 different channels. [br][/br]Edited by merge: I figure people are going to figure it out one way or another. In forge there are actually 8 warthogs, and 7 mongooses. The mongooses are set to infection only, and will only appear if the gametype requires. In the gametype settings I set the vehicle settings to warthog only. This converts all mongooses to warthogs while keeping the ones that are already there. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Lol permission? I looked everywhere and could not find the "original". Writers Mind is so spread out that everyone is making their own version. Yes they are similair, but mine is the longest I have seen (because its outside the map and above it =P), its the only that has a multiple channel system, and the settings are set to fix any and all bugs that have been in any writers mind. Plus every writers mind usually just bounces the vehicles around while falling. I found this boring and random. I fixed this so instead of crashing everywhere, you go crazy fast (fastest I have seen was .5 second per lap) and if you hit any kind of bump, then you crash like crazy (but you don't die as easily!)
Could you please explain what Writer's Mind is? I've never heard of it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that's confused here. Right? [br][/br]Edited by merge: Also, this looks very hectic and fun! Can't wait to try it out.
Writers mind features a 45 degree slope runway. At the top is where the humans spawn along with other vehicles. The zombies spawn on the runway, trying to kill the humans who are driving on the runway. At the bottom there are teleporter(s) that teleport you back to the top where humans continue to drive. To be honest I have no idea why writers think this... lol. But anyway thats the basic concept.
Yeah, it looks fun (I love games like this), but that bit at the bottom is super ugly. Don't use killballs they look disgusting. Use a kill barrier instead. But srs, with the amount of budget you have left you should be able to make it slightly better looking.
is there a way you could make this with one zombie at start with the hogs, and he has to infect humans to join him so at the end it's like it is in this. I think that would be fun
Played this in a LAN party with 6 people. Maybe needs a wider ramp as it became waaay too easy after some practice. But don't get me wrong, we played this gametype for a full hour before moving on! Good work!
The actual map I made myself. The idea however, I have no idea who it originally came from. I took a gametype called writers mind that I saw in some custom games and just edited it. Description says "My version of Writer's Mind". Not much else I can do since there are so many versions. To be honest I changed pretty much every option in the gametype so its not so similar. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Added a alpha zombie box to make it harder for the zombie to kill (since by the time the zombie leaves, people have picked up speed). Plus to all the people who hate kill balls, rejoice! There are NO kill balls yay!
I'm curious, how did you get the alpha zombie feature? Has it been added to the game-types for Halo Reach... finally???? Or did you trick the game somehow... <EDIT: disregard, read the description. What does the custom power-up give the alpha zombie?>
Played this with a few friends today. First map of this type I've actually played. Was a lot of fun, I have to say. The manic giggling that ensued seemed to support my feelings on it. Nice job!
Just played with a large party, lots of laughter, and we must have played for like an hour lol. Super fun game.
