I played a full 50 games in TS using only dual pistols. Everyone else was laughing at me, but when a guy is spraying with the AR and I just head shot him twice, it's me thats laughing.
I just played about 5 games only using the magnum and grenades. I've actually killed a sniper, a guy with a shotgun, and a few other people (I've lead my team every time.) And now, whenever I pick up any other weapon, I get killed.
some guns are pointless. look at br vs carbine (vs magnum?). all are pretty accurate headshot weapons that work by beating close range weapons at a distance. in theory, the carbine kills quicker then a br, in practice the br's larger clip, ability to carry more ammo, and higher accuracy means it dominates the carbine and magnum. the magnum gets even fewer kills per clip, and is even less accurate the the carbine. in theory it gets its usefullness from being dualwieldable, but when was the last time you saw someone rocking out with duals? the clear winner is the br.despite the occasional carbine fans, few high skilled players even take the time to pick up the carbine if they have a br. in mlg where money is on the line few of the pros pick it up, and when they do, its only for if their br runs out of ammo. shotty hammer sword? shotty always wins in a head to head fight. shotty also has the advantage of being able to 2 or 3 shot someone at ranges where the sword/hammer guy can do nothing but swipe at the air, and it doesnt have the 2 second delay when you switch to it. smg, spiker, plasma rifle? your standard dual weapons. while the smg is a force rivaling the assault rifle in range and power, and the plasma rifle makes an excellent shotty substitute in a pinch, the spiker does nothing. its spikes are so easily dodged id rather have 1 guy with dual spikers shooting at me then 1 guy with a single smg shooting at me. these guns literally litter the maps, and yet everyone has them appearing low in their tod charts. nobody picks them up because they are outclassed by every alternative.
I dont think any of the weapons are pointless. Every gun has a purpose, some do better with certain combinations or have a certain primary purpose like a missile pod. Pistols arent that good but can be a trusty backup weapon in tight situations. Like when you hurt someone but run out of ammo, then you just need to cap em in the face with 1 or 2 shots to finish them off.
for some reason i feel like the Spiker is a pointless weapon.... its just a knock off version of the needler without the epic blast if an opponent takes one to many. What ever happened to the Brute plasma pistol? if you are going to put a pointless weapon on halo, mind as well have that, instead of the spiker cause the only thing I find useful about it is for a good melee
One thing no one seems to have mentioned is that you hardly ever have to reload spikers due to clip size. In addition, they're quite good when dual-wielded and have decent range. And they are not supposed to be like needlers.
carbine and plasma turrent are usles, got less then 3 kills in my whole life with both of em ya well, if you know how to use grenades you can basicly do anything mg:
I agree and disagree with the statement that some weapons are useless. Really only one weapon is useless, and that is the AR. Sure, you may argue that the Carbine is useless (It takes down enemies faster than the BR you know?) and the Spiker and Plasma Rifle along with it, but these weapons are great weapons dependent on the situation of Assault/Defense. The Plasma Rifle is a devastating long-range Shotgun that tears through shields at an alarming rate, perfect for a buddy with a long range weapon like a BR, Carbine, or any for of Sniper to pick off. The Spiker is great for taking some one down whom has lost their shields. It may do equal or slightly more of an effect when you shoot someone in the head other than the body, this weapon lashes someone out once the shields are gone. I see the SMG as a combination of the two with more complement when someone has lost their shields. I strongly believe that Halo would be a far better game if they all together got rid of the AR. They graciously brought back the Magnum (Has the same effect of the Halo 1 Magnum when dual-wielded w/o the scope.), but we didn't need the AR when the SMG suits far better for more situations of combat. Now, you may also argue that the Flame grenade, Fuel Rod Gun, and Sentinal Beam are useless since they aren't in matchmaking, but the diversity that the weapons can be used for in customs is highly wide spread and makes the game far more enjoyable. Now I will silighty defend the AR saying that, though it doesn't take much, their is skill involved with the AR, but the term "Out Ar'ed" just sounds n00bish (Though I beleived I've perfected this so hopeully soon useless skill). But again, a SMG or BR would destroy the AR in most situations.
