So, is there a ton of room around Blackout's main area?

No, there is a barrier, but not a death barrier, around the outside. I have heard reports of space UNDER the structure, but I have not checked it.

 

The space under is pretty dece, big enough to forge..though I was hoping for no close side barriers.

The area "around" Blackout is extremely small. Disappointingly small, actually. Except for the gap between buildings and the area below the map, there is no room to forge outside of the map. The same applies above the map: the ceiling is as low as the buildings, and in most cases you cannot get on top of the buildings.

That kinda sucks... There would have been some great potential building up from the roofs and making a whole other level or two

 

actually, my friend just got out the map and made a pretty decent sized map outside of it.
