I just attempted to go into a custom game, but lagged out for some reason... but got the map downloaded. It was a map called Hotel Zanzibar, so I decided to check it out. Start up the game and low and behold. It's my map, which was posted here... Haunted Hotel. I back out of the game and check the game information. Author : PurpleMushroomz. Then I check the description and noticed that he changed the description to say it was made by him... mutant of hell. That frickin' map took me the better part of 3 full days of constantly restarting and resetting item properties to get all the floors to be flat and consistent, only to have a person come by and spend 3 seconds changing my name in the description, to theirs. They did absolutely nothing to the map except put their name on my work. I friggin' hate that crap. He didn't post it as his own, but still pissed me off! Here's his profile on Bungie... This happens a lot. Like all the time, to everyone, constantly. I love watching my little brother play halo against his slightly retarded friends, and watch as they pull up re-named maps like Gridlockdown, MLG Awesome, and my personal favorite Michael Jacksons Mansion. They're all just remade maps of famous maps here at forgehub, and what really pisses me off is that they can't just leave the maps alone. They think "Oh this map is amazing, and spartan lasers and secrets only I know are amazing so... OMFGWINSAUCE" it's really annoying. Especially, when they "make it rain" random weapons all over an otherwise good map.
Whenever I know the original author, I at least try to mention them in my description. Hell, I've even thanked people for the canvas maps in my threads and tried to keep their names in the description, if I have space left. Just wish Bungie had some kind of protection to prevent this kind of thing, like a field for an original author... and maybe change the author field to "edited by :".
It's funny when they accuse you of being the map stealer... I got that one alot after making Bungie Favs. Chrst gets to deal with it next time ; )
When you save as a new map, a disclaimer comes up that states that stealing, modding, etc is illegal. That's Bungie's protection.
