Thank you for actually going to the effort of taking our criticism into consideration and not only that but not getting salty and defensive automatically. Really, that alone says volumes about you. As for the aesthetics, the halo 2 style of forerunner was pretty blocky and solid with not alot of things added just to look pretty, now i havent taken a look at where the object count would be without the unsc stuff, but it should be doable. Hope that helps a little.
I wouldn't necessarily say that the map is too large for a theme other than UNSC, There have been big team battle maps with plenty of details to immerse you in the battle field. I haven't downloaded your map to take a look at where you are in terms of object count, but lots of things are possible with this forge. Like Aschur said, the blocky H2 forerunner style should be possible, and I think even a Covenant theme should be possible as well. My dislike for UNSC themes are purely an opinion so don't take that too harshly. If you're going to stick to the UNSC theme, I'd try to focus on using larger pieces so that you can reduce your object count and cover the whole map rather than a few spots here and there. 2v2 maps tend to have more small details but they tend to be things that are purely aesthetic. When your map gets larger, you have to find a balance between item count and aesthetics. In my opinion, the entirety of the map should have the same amount of detail. If some portions are very detailed and some are basic blocks, it breaks immersion. Like I said, in my original post: judging from the posted video, I think the scaling looks good and I'm looking forward to improved aesthetics. On a somewhat related note: I don't understand this trend of people posting other people's maps (outside of map features.) I think had you posted the map yourself, you probably would have gone about it much more humbly and we could have avoided all this drama from bold claims and focused on the map itself.
The way in which you handled the criticism is appreciated, btw. If you ever need a second pair of eyes just message me on Xbox live
This looks like a damn good remake. Don't mean to repeat what's already been said, but if I were you I would remove the UNSC labels, kinda soils the feeling given in h2. I do, however, sorta understand your reasoning behind doing so, but I feel like there has to be a way around it and make it more of a near perfect remake. Another way to help this is by changing the color to that rust-ish shade from the original. Might just be my colorblind eyes but it looks way flatter and more gray than it should IMO. Pros, the design looks pretty dead on. Honestly, that's the most important part of any remake. Also, the light in the back looks almost identical to the OG You are handling the crazy criticism very well and I am looking forward to future updates of this. P.S. Y'all gotta learn the difference between feedback and complaining. It seems to have gotten better but the beginning of this thread was savage
Attacking the creator of a post is not criticism. This comment in particular is what I was referring to when I spoke about the snobbery of the community here. Hard work and dedication, especially from Hugo's part, should not be dismissed so harshly. Hugo has been a HUGE contributor to the Halo 5 community and, in my opinion, is a big reason why there even is still a forge community in Halo 5, given the fact that it nearly died out from Halo 4 to MCC. He's been delivering content almost constantly since the release of forge. As for the actual map, I agree that it isn't perfect, and no remake ever will be. Personally I think the dedication that went in to remaking such an intricate map should be commended. But like Pharma said, there's a difference between feedback and constructive criticism, and just complaining to complain.
I'm going to be downright honest here. Posting someone elses map takes little to no skill, and as such warrants no amount of criticism at all. It isn't like the maps wouldn't exist if he didn't make videos of them. If you want to defend anyone, defend the map creators, defend the people that go out of their way to kill and die hundreds of times on a halo 2 map just to recreate the same spawn points, not the guy that just plays a game on the map and captures the video. No amount of criticism I can give Hugo will make the maps that he posts get any better, so sure, I may complain. But I will and did give criticism to the map creator, so would you kindly **** off.
No need to be so harsh. I approached Hugo on Reddit regarding my map as I know he features many maps and remakes as well as organises the google docs spreadsheet related to such things and gave him permission for such a feature when he told me he was interested. so I would like to thank Hugo for the feature and for the criticism received on here. In response to further comments, I don't think I will go to the effort to changing the entire theme of the map but nonetheless will take all the other advice received and put it to good use.
