My first attempt at a slayer map: Slayelators. Short Description: This is a very small, close quarters, fast-paced, Symmetrical map designed for FFA slayer using the provided gametype. It plays best with 2-5 players. (Anything more would just be insane and silly) Basic Layout: -The general layout is of a cylindrical hub with 3 main floors and a basement. -The first floor has trench-like corridors surrounding the hub, along with two side rooms. -The second floor has a bridge running across the hub and a raised ring-level. -The top floor has a slight mound and pillars for cover. -The basement is a simple area with a flamethrower and access to the two side rooms on floor 1. -Connecting the floors are two elevators. These elevators are designed to work quickly and efficiently, not to be pretty. -Simply stand on the custom powerup and you will be taken up, a second custom powerup can be grabbed to go to the top floor. Accessing the basement is done by going under the elevator shaft once an elevator has been taken up. -It is highly unadvisable to enter the elevator shaft if no elevator is present, instead I would advise grabbing deployable grav lifts from hooches down the side corridors on the first floor and going up through the hub. Pictures: First floor hub A side room on the first floor One of the four trenches surrounding the first floor hub A hooch in one of the trenches where a deployable grav lift is stored. Using it there and then is probably not the best idea. Second Floor Looking down from the second floor ring Top Floor Basement An Elevator shaft Weapon Details Basement: -Flamethrower x1,180s -Needler x2, 45s -Spiker x2, 30s -Spike Grenade x2, 60s First Floor: -SMG x2, 20s -Magnum x2, 30s -Plasma Pistol x2, 30s -Bubble Shield x1, 90s -Grav Lift x2, 60s -Plasma Grenades x2, 120s Second Floor: -SMG x2, 20s -Plasma Rifle x2, 30s -Sentinel Beam x1, 150s -Frag Grenade x1, 120s -Plasma Grenade x1, 120s Top Floor: -Battle Rifle x1, 30s -Mauler x1, 90s (reduced clip) -Flame Grenade x1, 150s -Power Drainer x1, 120s Download Map Download Gametype (Required)
It's a switch for the elevators, one to initiate it, and then another further up to go between floors. The grav lifts are below the map and behind walls to make them more "behind the scenes" as well. I actually came up with the idea before seeing the video on switches, lol. Oh well. Feedback is definately appreciated. I will happily make alterations that I believe can improve the map, given suggestions.
Thanks. All positive comments yet only a 3 star rating, what's that all about? More feedback and ideas for improvement would really be appreciated. This is my first slayer map after all.
don't take any notice of the rating, it means nothing. i'm pretty sure that exacted or something had two stars at one point, which proves that it means nothing. this maps looks great, i would consider changing the name though for 2 reasons 1. although it describes the map it also sounds quite n00bish, no offense intended 2. i find it hard to say, but thats probably just me. anyway good job in this map and nice use of switches.
Yeah I couldn't think of a decent name for it. I thought it was best to just create a name that described the style of play. It's a mix of "Slayer" and "Elevators" and is pronounced "Slay-er-late-ers" (Kind've like "See ya laterz") So the name actually has a surprising depth to it! I'm open to suggestions on a different name though!!!
Iv'e made a new judgement. This is the best map I have ever played! There is so much interlocking, the lifts work perfectly, nothing has been placed in an easy way. This must have taken ages. You deserve recon for this
Thanks for the really positive comment. It did take ages yes, I had to practically save and exit on every object. I only just noticed the post before my previous one about the gametype. It is not absolutely required but it's alot better with the gametype. The gametype increases your damage resistance to 300% but with increased weapon damage also at 300%. The point of this is so that the elevators don't do too much damage to you as you ride them (They can hurt you but the gametype minimises that). Also the custom powerups increase your damage resistance even more, whilst lowering your weapon damage to balance it. This is to ensure that you really are barely damaged at all by the lifts. Finally, movement speed is reduced to 90% to make combat flow a bit better due to the very small width of the map. So that's what the gametype does. Whether you think those improvements are really necessary is up to you, but I feel it all helps the combat.
Actually the map plays best and really shines through when doing a 1v1v1 game. Most of my testing was done with a 3 person party. Constructive criticism is appreciated by the way. Infact I'm already planning on a V2 because someone found a way out of the map. So I could add or remove some other stuff while I'm at it.
